    摘要: Subtitling can be based on either pixel data or on character data. Character data allow very efficient encoding, but from character strings alone, subtitling can not be converted into a graphical representation to be overlaid over video. The intended character set, font and e.g. font size, must either be coded explicitly within the subtitling bitstream or an implicit assumption must be made about them. In pixel-based subtitling, subtitling frames are conveyed directly in the form of graphical representations by describing them as (typically rectangular) regions of pixel values on the AV screen, at the cost of considerably increased bandwidth for the subtitling data. According to the invention, a font memory is used that allows an efficient realization of pixel-based subtitle lettering, because the glyphs need only be transmitted once and thereafter are referenced by relatively compact character references during the AV event. Thereby the invention combines the advantages of pure pixel-based and pure-character-based subtitling schemes, while mostly avoiding their respective shortcomings.

    摘要: A method for recording and reproducing video and/or audio signals having an additional information item, e.g. a title information item, recorded therein, which additional information item may be subsequently inserted into a video picture during reproduction. The additional information data are converted, thereby producing an executable sub-picture unit, and is recorded in a corresponding sub-picture data pack in addition to the data packs for the video/audio signal. Thus, it is possible to record the additional information data separately without difficulty without necessitating a change to the recording format to the effect that special data packs for the additional information items are included in the planning. The invention also relates to a corresponding recording and reproduction apparatus.

    摘要: DVD Stream Recording allows to recover or permanently erase on-the-fly preliminarily erased cells on the disc. In case of very low-bitrate stream recording there could be less than one application packet and therefore timestamp per Stream Object Unit. In such situation, stuffing is necessary in order to guarantee the proper functioning of the Mapping List data retrieval. To make on-the-fly preliminarily erasure, complete recovery or permanent erase possible even for stuffing data packets located at cell boundaries, to two special timestamps defining a preliminarily erased cell and two other timestamps defining the location of a normal cell a different meaning is assigned under specific circumstances.
