摘要: Innovations in flexible reference picture management are described. For example, a video encoder and video decoder use a global reference picture set (“GRPS”) of reference pictures that remain in memory, and hence are available for use in video encoding/decoding, longer than conventional reference pictures. In particular, reference pictures of the GRPS remain available across random access boundaries. Or, as another example, a video encoder and video decoder clip a reference picture so that useful regions of the reference picture are retained in memory, while unhelpful or redundant regions of the reference picture are discarded. Reference picture clipping can reduce the amount of memory needed to store reference pictures or improve the utilization of available memory by providing better options for motion compensation. Or, as still another example, a video encoder and video decoder filter a reference picture to remove random noise (e.g., capture noise due to camera imperfections during capture).

摘要: A picture encoding/decoding method and a related apparatus are provided. The picture decoding method includes obtaining a current picture from a video, the current picture being segmented using random access points into multiple video segments supporting a random access function; selecting, from a knowledge base, K reference pictures of the current picture, wherein at least one reference picture in the knowledge base does not belong to a random access segment in which the current picture is located, the random access segment comprising a picture sequence arranged in a decoding order from a closest random access point before the current picture to a closest random access point after the current picture; and decoding the current picture according to the K reference pictures.

摘要: A method for encoding a picture of a video sequence in a bit stream that reduces slice header parsing overhead is provided. The method includes determining weighting factors that may be used for weighted prediction in encoding at least one slice of the picture, wherein a total number of the weighting factors is constrained to not exceed a predetermined threshold number of weighting factors, wherein the threshold number is less than a maximum possible number of weighting factors, and signaling weighted prediction parameters including the weighting factors in a slice header in the bit stream.

摘要: Intra prediction is used in state-of-the-art video coding standards such as AVC. The intra prediction modes are coded into the bitstream. Luma and chroma components could potentially have different prediction modes. For chroma components, there are 5 different modes defined in AVC: vertical, horizontal, DC, diagonal down right, and “same as luma”. Statistics show that the “same as luma” mode is frequent used, but in AVC, this mode is encoded using more bits than other modes during entropy coding, therefore the coding efficiency is decreased. Accordingly, a modified binarization/codeword assignment for chroma intra mode signaling is able to be utilized for high efficiency video coding (HEVC), the next generation video coding standard.

摘要: Decoder processor hardware reproduces a support plane including a set of support values. The set of support values is derived from combining a sequence of multiple original sets of values. The decoder processor hardware receives compensation information. The decoder processor hardware utilizes the compensation information to produce preliminary renditions of the multiple original sets of values based on the set of support values. Encoder processor hardware processes a sequence of original sets of values. The encoder processor hardware utilizes the values of the original sets in the sequence to produce a set of support values, the set of support values representing a baseline to reproduce a rendition of each of the original sets of values. The encoder processor hardware generates reconstruction data to include data corresponding to the set of support values, the reconstruction data indicates how to reconstruct the original sets of values using the set of support values.

摘要: Systems and methods are provided for alleviating bandwidth limitations of video transmission and enhancing the quality of videos at a receiver. In particular, an improved video transmission system is provided for generating high-resolution videos. The systems have therein a transmitter and a receiver; the transmitter includes an outer encoder and a core encoder, while the receiver includes a core decoder and an outer decoder. The outer encoder is adapted to receive the video from a source and separately output a salient video and an encoded background, and the outer decoder is adapted to merge the background with the salient video thereby producing an enhanced video. Also provided is a system that simulates pan-tilt-zoom (PTZ) operations without PTZ hardware. Further provided are methods for video transmission whereby a background model is initialized, a background independently encoded, updated incrementally, and the background and the updates transmitted independently from the video.

摘要: A model-based compression codec applies higher-level modeling to produce better predictions than can be found through conventional block-based motion estimation and compensation. Computer-vision-based feature and object detection algorithms identify regions of interest throughout the video datacube. The detected features and objects are modeled with a compact set of parameters, and similar feature/object instances are associated across frames. Associated features/objects are formed into tracks and related to specific blocks of video data to be encoded. The tracking information is used to produce model-based predictions for those blocks of data, enabling more efficient navigation of the prediction search space than is typically achievable through conventional motion estimation methods. A hybrid framework enables modeling of data at multiple fidelities and selects the appropriate level of modeling for each portion of video data. A compliant-stream version of the model-based compression codec uses the modeling information indirectly to improve compression while producing bitstreams that can be interpreted by standard decoders.
