摘要: A server for a merchant computer system, the server comprising: a file store for storing a range of audio/video products in respective product files; a dialogue unit having a network connection and operable to invite and receive a client selection from among the products via the network connection; a product reader for reading the product files to generate a digital audio/video signal; a digital signal processing unit having an input connectable to receive the digital audio/video signal from the product reader, a processing core operable to apply a defined level of content degradation to the digital audio/video signal, and an output connected to output the degraded digital audio/video signal from the processing core to the network connection. It is therefore possible for a content provider to change the characteristics of an audio or video data stream supplied over a network to a potential purchaser in a controlled and variable manner. The amount of degradation is sufficient to enable a potential purchaser to appreciate the characteristics of the audio or video product, whilst reducing the perceived quality.

摘要: A combination cutting and spacer guide has a cutting block portion and a guide arm portion. The cutting block portion has a cutting guide slot and holes to receive pins or drills for mounting the combination cutting and spacer guide to the femur. The cutting guide portion also has a cutting guide slot defining the distal femoral resection plane. The guide arm portion has a planar femoral and tibial surfaces and an elongate slot between the surfaces. A shim has a shim arm with contact surfaces for contacting part of the guide arm and part of one of the bones of the knee and a mounting member connected to the shim arm. The shim arm mounting member is receivable in the elongate slot of the guide arm to mount the shim to the guide arm to adjust the level of the femoral resection plane.

摘要: A coating such as liquid milk chocolate is applied to articles such as confectionery bars. The bars are conveyed by conveyor under a curtain of liquid chocolate issuing through an outlet slot in a trough. A layer of air is caused to flow through the outlet slot in the trough so as to modify the flow characteristics of the curtain. The layer of air permits a curtain of even thickness to be achieved.

摘要: The present teachings provide for a method and system for facilitating content download to one or more remote devices via an insecure communication channel. The method comprises the steps of receiving at least one shared secret from a device via an insecure communications channel, each shared secret encoded and functioning as an identifier for the device, transmitting an encrypted file, from a file server, to the device associated with the encoded shared secret, receiving the shared secret in a plaintext form a via a secure communications channel, receiving a confirmation authorizing the release of a decryption key, and sending a decryption key corresponding to the transmitted file, for which the authorization for the release of the decryption key has been received. The decryption key is encrypted using the shared secret if transmission is via the insecure channel.

摘要: A system and method controls an encoder data buffer. The system includes an encoder for encoding input data as a first bit sequence in a bitstream; a processor having a predetermined size for converting the first bit sequence to a sequence having the predetermined size; and a decoder for decoding the modified bit sequence. The processor generates a set of modified bit sequences for facilitating editing thereof, in which the set of modified bit sequences, assembled in an arbitrary order, are decodeable by the decoder to generate a decoded output signal free of editing artifacts. The modified bit sequences are generated by inserting bits to the first bit sequence. The encoder encodes the input data at a rate such that a final capacity of the data buffer is less than a function of the predetermined size, a desired decoding rate, and an initial capacity of the encoder buffer. The data buffer has a total buffer capacity which is less than a function of the actual rate and the desired decoding rate. The capacity of the data buffer is less than one half the capacity of the decoder buffer. A method controls a data buffer by receiving input data; encoding the input data to generate a first bit sequence; detecting a condition of the first bit sequence having a size of less than a predetermined size; converting the first bit sequence to sets of modified bit sequences having the predetermined size; receiving the bitstream; and decoding the modified bit sequences.
