    摘要: A video encoder (2) is disclosed for sending video data to a server (4) over a channel. A video compressor (16) can compress video data using an adjustable compression factor. A multiplexer/pack constructor (18) can receive compressed video from the compressor, together with non-video data, and can queue data for transmission. A bandwidth monitor (20) is provided for monitoring the performance of the channel based on the behaviour of transmitted data packets, including their round-trip travel time to and from the server (4). The compressor (16) can modify the adjustable compression factor based on the performance of the channel, as determined by the bandwidth monitor, and the amount of non-video data received by the packet constructor Specifically, the compression factor can be changed so that video data can be transmitted promptly but with reduced quality if there is less bandwidth available and if space is required in the channel for non-video data. This can permit transmission of non-video data without disrupting the live video feed or introducing any delay.

    摘要: Content may have associated interest information that indicates various areas of interest within images displayed during presentation of the content. An area of interest is an area for which a different encoding bitrate may be desired relative to another area. When an image is encoded for transmission, instructions may be provided to an encoding component for encoding of the image based on the associated interest information. The encoding component may then determine appropriate bitrates for different portions of the image based on the interest information while also satisfying overall bitrate constraints for the image as a whole.

    摘要: A method for two time-scales video stream transmission control is proposed, which mainly includes the following three steps. Firstly, a model-based long time-scale bandwidth trend extraction step is proposed to calculate a current bandwidth through a Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) throughput model, and predict a trend of network bandwidth by using an Exponential Smooth Model (ESM) according to the calculated current bandwidth. Secondly, a short time-scale bandwidth fluctuation detection step is proposed to divide a network status into three categories and according to different network statuses, additively increase or multiplicatively decrease the estimated bandwidth. Thirdly, a target bit rate adjustment step based on two asymmetrical thresholds is proposed to set an up-threshold and a down-threshold of bandwidth to avoid frequently adjusting a target bit rate of an encoder. The method can satisfy the requirements of TCP-friendliness, real-time, and smoothness for the video transmission.
