Abstract: A thermostat that is configured to be releasably secured to a wall mountable connector, wherein the wall mountable connector includes a jumper switch that permits an installer or other professional to easily form an electrical connection between different wiring terminals of the wall mountable connector in accordance with how particular field wires are connected to the wiring terminals of the wall mountable connector. The thermostat is further configured to automatically determine the position of the jumper switch of the wall mountable connector, and in some cases, change the control of at least some functionality of the thermostat and/or HVAC equipment depending on the position of the jumper switch.

Abstract: A thermostat that is configured to couple to a wall mountable connector includes a plurality of pins that extend out the back of the thermostat and that are intended to mate with corresponding pin terminals of the wall mountable connector and provide electrical connections between the thermostat and the wall mountable connector. In some cases, the plurality of pins of the thermostat are secured to a printed circuit board within the thermostat housing. A plurality of apertures formed in the back of the thermostat housing may be configured to accommodate the plurality of pins and to help align the printed circuit board with the thermostat housing. This may be particularly beneficial when assembling the printed circuit board with the thermostat housing.

Abstract: An HVAC actuator includes an output shaft rotatable between first and second end positions and a drive mechanism to selectively drive the output shaft toward the first end position. The actuator may include a light source within its housing and a window to provide visibility of the light from the light source to an observer. An aperture member may be situated between the light source and the window and be configured to move as the output shaft is rotated. The aperture member may have spaced openings that transmit the light to the window at a plurality of positions of the output shaft such that the aperture member may cause the appearance of blinking of the light through the window as the output shaft is rotated toward the first end position. One of the openings may be configured to be in registration with the light source at the first end position.

Abstract: A wall plate assembly for an HVAC controller may include a rear plate including an aperture extending through the rear plate and a front plate securable to the rear plate. In some cases, the front plate may have a recessed portion that is recessed back toward the rear plate and align with the aperture in the rear plate. An air flow barrier may be secured to the recessed portion of the front plate. The air flow barrier may include a barrier surface that covers a portion of the aperture formed in the recessed portion of the front plate to reduce air infiltration. Abstract: An HVAC actuator configured to actuate an HVAC component may include a rotatable output shaft having a full range of rotation between a first end position and a second end position, a drive mechanism configured to selectively drive the output shaft, and a housing having a front side that faces away from the HVAC component. Abstract: An HVAC actuator may include a rotatable output shaft, a drive mechanism configured to selectively drive the output shaft, two or more wiring terminals, and a removable blocking tab configured to block wire attachment to at least one of the two or more wiring terminals. When the removable tab is removed, wire attachment to the previously blocked at least one wire terminals may no longer blocked. The removable block tab may be a break-away tab. The HVAC actuator may include a housing enclosing the drive mechanism, and the break-away tab may be integral to the housing.
