摘要: An optical wavelength converter module includes an optical wavelength converter device having a cladding and a waveguide which is disposed in the cladding and has a higher refractive index than the cladding, at least one of the cladding and the waveguide being made of a nonlinear optical material, whereby the wavelength of a fundamental which is propagating in the waveguide is converted. The optical wavelength converter module also includes a semiconductor laser for emitting a laser beam which is introduced as the fundamental into the waveguide. The semiconductor laser is driven with a pulsed drive current. The duration of the drive current pulses is made short enough to enable the semiconductor laser to produce a higher peak output power than when it is continuously driven, and it is made longer then a duration which falls within the range of pulse durations wherein the input coupling efficiency decreases as the pulse duration decreases and at which the wavelength conversion efficiency is equal to that which is achieved when the semiconductor laser is continuously driven.

摘要: An optical pickup apparatus comprises an objective lens for converging a light beam onto an optical recording medium, and a light guide disposed so that the surface thereof receives the light beam reflected by the optical recording medium. A focusing grating is provided on one surface of the light guide for introducing the reflected light beam into the light guide such that the reflected light beam advances by total reflection between the one surface and the other surface of the light guide, and converging the light beam thus guided in the light guide. A photodetector secured to the surface or an edge face of the light guide detects the guided light beam converged by the focusing grating. Tracking error, focusing error and signals recorded on the optical recording medium are detected based on an output of the photodetector.

摘要: A radiation image read-out apparatus comprises a linear stimulating ray source for emitting stimulating rays to a linear portion of a stimulable phosphor sheet carrying a radiation image stored therein, and a line sensor constituted by many solid state photoelectric conversion devices. The line sensor extends at least over the length of the linear portion of the stimulable phosphor sheet exposed to stimulating rays. Light emitted by the linear portion of the stimulable phosphor sheet upon stimulation thereof is received and photoelectrically converted by the solid state photoelectric conversion devices. The portion exposed linearly to stimulating rays and the line sensor are moved with respect to the stimulable phosphor sheet, and outputs of the line sensor are sequentially read out in accordance with the movement of the portion exposed linearly to stimulating rays and the line sensor with respect to the stimulable phosphor sheet.

摘要: A pickup apparatus for a magneto-optical recording medium comprises an optical waveguide for receiving a light beam reflected by a magneto-optical recording medium, and first and second focusing grating couplers disposed side by side on the optical waveguide for introducing the reflected light beam into the optical waveguide by exciting the same guided mode, and converging the guided optical waves. A third focusing grating coupler is disposed for introducing the reflected light beam into the optical waveguide in a different guided mode and converging the guided optical wave. First, second and third photodetectors are secured to the optical waveguide for respectively detecting the optical waves converged by the first, second and third focusing grating couplers. Tracking error and focusing error are detected based on the outputs of the first and second photodetectors, and recorded signals are detected based on a difference between the output of the first and/or second photodetector and an output of the third photodetector.

摘要: A light modulator comprises a stack of a wave guide layer and an adjacent layer normally exhibiting a refractive index smaller than that of the wave guide layer, at least one of these layers being formed of a material whose refractive index changes by application of energy. An energy applicator is provided at least in one of these layers, and a dielectric grating is positioned at the surface of the adjacent layer over a section where energy is applied by the energy applicator. A drive circuit is provided for energizing the energy applicator and causing a change in refractive index to arise in the wave guide layer and/or the adjacent layer so that a wave guided inside of the wave guide layer is radiated out of the stack by interaction with the dielectric grating. In a wave guide device, the wave guide layer is formed of a thermo-optic material in which the thermal coefficient of refractive index is zero or negative, and the adjacent layer is formed of a thermo-optic material exhibiting a positive thermal coefficient of refractive index.

摘要: A reduction in utilization efficiency of laser beams emitted from laser emission portions of illumination means is limited and an exposure surface is exposed by beam spots with desired spot diameters and spot forms. At an exposure head, first microlenses are arranged in a two dimensional manner so as to correspond to micromirrors at a DMD, and apertures are arranged in a two dimensional manner at back side focusing positions of the first microlenses. With this exposure head, light source images, which are formed to be very small at back side focusing positions of the first microlenses by the first microlenses, are projected onto the exposure surface, and these light source images serve as beam spots BS and expose the exposure surface.
