Abstract:
Halogen onium salts, and onium salts of Group VA and V1A elements having an MF.sub.6.sup.- anion, where M is selected from P, As and Sb, have been found to exhibit unusual activity under ultraviolet light. These onium salts can be employed as cationic photoinitiators when used with a variety of organic resins and cyclic organic compounds.
Abstract:
Cationic polymerization of epoxy resin such as epoxy monomers or prepolymers, can be achieved by use of certain radiation sensitive aromatic onium salts of Group Va elements. Curable compositions are provided which can be used as sealants, coating compounds, encapsulants, etc.

Abstract:
Cationic polymerization of a variety of organic materials such as vinyl monomers, prepolymers, cyclic ethers, cyclic esters, cyclic amines, cyclic sulfides and organosilicon cyclics can be achieved by the use of certain radiation sensitive aromatic onium salts of Group Va elements. In addition, polymerizable compositions are provided which can be used as coating compounds, molding resins, adhesives, etc.

Abstract:
Epoxy compositions are provided which can be cured with visible radiant energy based on the use of certain organic dyes in combination with diarylhalonium salts. Cationic polymerization of various olefinic and cyclic organic compounds and organosilicon cyclics also can be effected in a similar manner.
Abstract:
The invention consists of a rapidly crosslinkable, two-component silicone elastomer together with a specially designed tray that serves as a form for the silicone resin and forms an integral portion of a dental appliance.
Abstract:
A process for preparing a cationically photopolymerizable siloxane oligomer, that includes: combining a platinum group catalyst, a hydrosiloxane compound selected from and a vinyl or allyl compound comprising a cationically photopolymerizable functionality; and then contacting the product with oxygen in the presence of the catalyst to form the cationically photopolymerizable multifunctional siloxane oligomer. R1 and R3 are independently fluoroethyl, methyl or phenyl.
Abstract:
Triarylsulfonium salts of formula I or II are useful as initiators for cationic photopolymerizations: wherein Ar1 and Ar2 are independently polycyclic aryl, substituted aryl, heteroaryl, substituted heteroaryl, or aryl or heteroaryl, pendant from a polymer chain; and MtXn− is a complex anion selected from PF6−, SbF6−, AsF6−, GaF6−, BF4−, (C6F5)4B− and CF3SO2)3C−.
Abstract:
Reactive adhesive compositions that can be activated with actinic radiation, manipulated for an extended time and then cured thermally are disclosed. The prepolymer mixture for the reactive adhesive contains a catalyst component and a monomer/oligomer component. The monomer or oligomer is chosen from oxetane monomers, oxirane monomers, oxetane oligomers and oxirane oligomers. The oxirane monomers and oligomers have at least one oxygen or sulfur of an ether or thioether in a position two or three carbons removed from the oxygen of the oxirane.
