    摘要: According to one example embodiment, there is provided a method and an apparatus to evaluate the credit of a healthcare patient. The example embodiment provides methods and computer systems programmed to use multiple variables that are known about a patient prior to a service being rendered to segment the patient population into finer grained groupings. These finer grained groupings allow financial factors, such as a credit score, to be a more accurate predictor. Also, according to another example embodiment, the model is not a generic model for all patients, but the variables and their parameters are specific to a particular healthcare organization's or facility's patient population. This creates a custom model that further enhances its predictiveness.

    摘要: Techniques for monitoring the quality (e.g., optical and mechanical properties) in optical waveguides (e.g., photonic crystal fibers) are disclosed. Additionally, techniques for detecting and localizing defects in the waveguides are also described. Pulses of light are launched into one end of an optical waveguide. The amount of light scattered out of the same end of the waveguide (i.e., a backscattered or reflected signal) is monitored at certain wavelengths specific to the spectral characteristics of the waveguide. Transmission characteristics and defect localization can be determined from the backscattered signal.

    摘要: An optical waveguide structure including a first waveguide, a second waveguide that intersects with the first waveguide, and a photonic crystal resonator system at the intersection of the first and second waveguides. In accordance with another embodiment there is provided an optical waveguide crossing structure including a first waveguide that propagates signals in a first direction, a second waveguide that intersects with the first waveguide and propagates signals in a second direction, and a photonic crystal crossing region at the intersection of the first and second waveguides that prevents crosstalk between the signals of the first and second waveguides. In accordance with another embodiment of the invention there is provided an optical waveguide structure including a first waveguide, a second waveguide, and a resonator system at the intersection of the first and second waveguides, the intersection possessing a first mirror plane that is parallel to the first waveguide, the resonator system supporting a first resonant mode that includes different symmetry with guided modes in the first waveguide with respect to the first mirror plane, the resonator system substantially reduces crosstalk from the second waveguide to said first waveguide.
