摘要: A method of recirculative precollation copying of simplex documents in forward serial page order by stacking the set of simplex document sheets in proper page order, but face-down and overlying the imaging station, and circulating the document set in its first and last circulations through a non-inverting reversing document path between the stack and the imaging station. In all other circulations of the document set the documents circulate through a different, unidirectional, document path with two inversions, with a single inversion between the stack and the imaging station and another common inversion between the imaging station and the stack used in all circulations, to provide proper simplex/duplex copying of an odd or even number of simplex documents without counting them before they are copied.

摘要: In a copier in which a document handling system alternatingly recirculates documents in forward serial order and then in reverse serial order relative to the optical imaging system to provide bi-directional pre-collated copying in which the copies form copy sheet sets which are alternately in forward and reverse serial order. Two copy sheet bins collect alternate copy sheet sets via a copy sheet output control which alternatingly switches the path of the copy sheets between these two bins in response to the switching between the forward and reverse serial order of copying of the documents. The first bin provides face-up stacking of the copy sheets to re-establish forward serial order collation and the second bin provides face-down stacking to maintain forward serial collation, cooperatively with the copy sheet output control.

摘要: A mail sorter, method, and software product are used for sorting inbound mail pieces and outbound mail pieces. The mail sorter includes sorter modules cooperatively engaged with each other, so as to receive mail pieces that are a mixture of both inbound mail pieces and outbound mail pieces, and so as to sort both the inbound mail pieces and the outbound mail pieces. The mail sorter also includes an unsorted mail piece path that is utilized by both the inbound mail pieces and the outbound mail pieces. The outbound mail pieces are mail pieces destined for sorting at a remote postal facility prior to delivery to destination addresses, whereas the inbound mail pieces are mail pieces that are not destined for sorting at a remote postal facility prior to delivery to destination addresses.

摘要: A sorting system accepts a group of mail pieces at a loading station, sorts them, and then moves them to an unloading station. The system includes a reader for retrieving delivery information associated with each mail piece, and also includes clamps dimensioned for receipt of a mail piece into each clamp. The system has a device for creating an association between the retrieved delivery information of each mail piece and its respective clamp. The system also has a sorter for moving the clamps holding the mail pieces, based upon the association of each clamp with the retrieved delivery information, so that the mail pieces held by the clamps are sorted according to a desired delivery sequence. Additionally, the system includes a mechanism for opening the sorted clamps to release the mail pieces at the unloading station.

摘要: A clamp is designed for accepting a mail piece at a loading station, and for releasably holding the mail piece while the mail piece is moved to an unloading station via a sorting system. The clamp is manipulated in the sorting system, instead of manipulating the mail piece held by the clamp. The clamp includes jaws for releasably holding the mail piece, plus a machine readable identifier, plus a mechanism for engaging with the sorting system. The clamp's identifier includes clamp information which uniquely identifies the clamp. The clamp information is for use by the sorting system, in combination with address information on the mail piece, to enable sortation of the mail piece held by the clamp.

摘要: A system and method are disclosed for sorting mail pieces that may include both standard and higher class mail. The mail pieces are for delivery to various addresses, and the present invention postpones delivery to some addresses if those addresses are receiving insufficient mail. According to this method, data is collected about each mail piece, and that data for each mail piece is associated with a respective holder that holds the mail piece. Mail is withheld from immediate delivery if the collected data associated with the holder indicates that the mail piece is standard class having a non-immediate delivery deadline, provided that the collected data associated with other holders indicates that there are no other pieces having the same address and having either a higher class or an immediate delivery date.

摘要: A method for producing a continuous web of printed material for use in creating mailpieces. The continuous web has a width and a length, the length comprised of a series of attached sheets. The series of attached sheets are comprising envelope sheets and rectangular content pages. The content pages are rectangular in shape and may be oriented relative to the envelope sheets in a number of different configurations. In some configurations, two sets of content pages and/or envelope sheets can be printed across the width of the web. Sheets for forming business return envelopes may be printed in series with the content pages and envelope sheets. BREs may include individualized return addresses. A control code may be printed on one or more of the sheets for a given mailpiece, providing information for controlling assembly of the mailpiece. Two sets of sheets may be printed across the width of the web by printing content pages onto the continuous web such that two end-to-end content pages are printed across the width of the web. Positioning of mail content pages and envelope sheets for a given mailpiece may be optimized based on respective processing times determined for the system.

摘要: An envelope for use in containing and authenticating a ballot is presented. The envelope has a containment region dimensioned to receive a ballot or other desired document in accordance with the particular application with which the envelope is used and has a pre-defined area on the back to carry the signature of a person such as a voter using the envelope to vote by mail. A flap portion outside the pre-defined area is used to seal the containment region. A window cover is substantially in registration with the pre-defined signature area to obscure the signature in a first operative configuration and to reveal the pre-defined signature area in a second operative and to re-obscure the signature area after the signature area has been revealed whereby the ballot remains sealed during the pre-defined signature area obscured, revealed and re-obscured configurations. The window cover is arranged for automatic removal by mechanical opening means for automated processing.

摘要: A media feeder for feeding media items includes a moveable media side guide. A force limiting mechanism is coupled to move the side guide such that the side guide can be moved into engagement with media items with a force that will not exceed a predetermined level. A second mechanism is coupled to move the side guide a predetermined distance away from the media items. In one arrangement a first and a second moveable media side guides are mounted adjacent a media elevator platform. A first force limiting drive means is connected to a side guide adjustment mechanism operable to cause the guides toward or away from each other. A second drive means is connected to the side guide adjustment mechanism and is operable to cause the side guide adjustment mechanism to move the guides such that a predefined gap is established between the media items on the platform and the side guides after the side guides are moved into engagement with the media items. The second drive means may be operated by movement of an operator operable member such as cover for a media elevator platform housing. The feeder side guides may be adjusted to the predefined gap by a method that includes the opening and closing of the of the media elevator platform housing cover.
