A method for manufacturing a siloxane compound described by formula R.sup.1.sub.m Si{OSi(CH.sub.3).sub.2 H}.sub.(4-m) comprising reacting a silane compound or condensation product of a silane compound described by formula R.sup.1.sub.m Si(OR.sup.2).sub.(4-m), where R.sup.1 is selected from the group consisting of hydrogen and substituted or unsubstituted monovalent hydrocarbon groups, R.sup.2 is hydrogen, alkyl groups and alkoxyalkyl groups, and m is an integer from 0 to 3, with 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane in an aqueous solution of an acid in which the acid concentration is 1.0 wt % or less, and the molar ratio of the aqueous solution to the 1,1,3,3-tetramethyldisiloxane is in the range of 0.5 to 1.5. The method is particularly useful for manufacturing siloxane compounds having dimethylhydrodosiloxy groups.

There is disclosed a method for preparing a diorganopolysiloxane having a functional group at only one end of the molecular chain and having the formulaR(R.sub.2 SiO).sub.p Bwherein R is an independently selected monovalent hydrocarbon group, B is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and an organosilyl group having the formula--SiR.sub.2 R'in which R is as defined above, R' is selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom and an organic functional group and p is an integer having a value of at least 1, said method comprising:(I) polymerizing(A) a cyclic trisiloxane, using(C) a lithium compound catalyst, said polymerization reaction taking place in the presence of(D) a compound selected from the group consisting of a nitrile compound and an ester compound and(E) a polar solvent which does not contain activated hydrogen; and(II) terminating the nonequilibrium polymerization reaction product obtained from step (I) using(F) a compound selected from the group consisting of an acid and an organohalogenosilane.

An organopolysiloxane graft-type polyester is prepared by reacting, in the presence of an effective amount of a hydrosilylation catalyst, a polyester containing at least one alkenyl group and having no unsaturated terminal groups, said polyester having a number average molecular weight of about 500 to about 5,000, and an organopolysiloxane containing one hydrosilyl group. The organopolysiloxane graft-type polyester has excellent compatibility with polyesters and can improve the surface smoothness and hydrophobic property of the polyester when modified therewith.

There is disclosed a novel method for the preparation of an organopolysiloxane which has two or three diorganohydrogensiloxy groups at one and only one end of the molecular chain terminal. The method of the invention is particularly useful in that it produces high yields of the desired organopolysiloxane. The method comprises causing a condensation reaction between (A) a hydrogen or lithium terminated polysiloxane and (B) an organopolysiloxane having two or three diorganohydrogensiloxy groups at one terminal of the molecular chain and a halogen at the other terminal of the molecular chain.

The molecular weight of diphenylsiloxane-dimethylsiloxane copolymers can be controlled and the desired copolymers obtained in high yield when mixtures of hexaphenylcyclotrisiloxane and hexamethylcyclotrisiloxane are polymerized in a suitable aprotic solvent using a specified class of lithium silanolates as the polymerization initiator and a low molecular weight silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane as a molecular weight regulator, and the polymerization reaction is terminated when from 85 to 100 percent of the cyclosiloxanes are converted to said copolymer and prior to any substantial equilibration of the copolymer.
