A portable heat exchange unit for cooling a medium including a vessel adapted to contain a discrete quantity of a compressed or liquefied gas wherein the vessel includes a wall arranged to be placed in contact with the medium to be cooled, a valve for operatively controlling the release of the gas from the vessel, a panel positioned adjacent and inside the wall of the vessel for operatively directing the gas into heat exchange contact with the wall of the vessel and arranged to release gas from the top of the panel, and a means for exhausting the gas from the vessel. The panel has ridges thereon and engages the wall so as to form a plurality of channels between the ridges and the wall.
Abstract:
An apparatus comprising two light sources, a composite detector, a fixed grating, two independent slits and a mask with a multiplicity of slits analyzes the spectral composition of samples rapidly and accurately and can transmit such information to other locations by modem. A first light source produces a spectrum with broad spectral range, a second light source produces a spectrum with multiple sharp spectral features. The first and second light sources are used to produce a sample spectrum and a reference spectrum respectively. A portion of the light from each of the two sources is used to calibrate the intensity of the instrument at each wavelength measurement. Rapid scanning is achieved by continuous multiplexing of each wavelength of light to the detector using a rotating mask with a multiplicity of slits. Continuous wavelength calibration is achieved by using the reference spectrum to encode a wavelength scale as spectrum is acquired. The spectral data can be transmitted by the said apparatus to other locations by modem. The said modem enables a multiplicity of the said apparatus to be used at various locations to perform a common analysis function. For example, a city wide medical network of analyzers may be set up to communicate with a central data base, where analyses on clinical assays may be performed by powerful dedicated computers. In another example, a network of the said apparatus may be set up in an integrated manufacturing environment such as a tobacco manufacturing plant or pharmaceutical manufacturing plant, to accumulate data at several points in the manufacturing process. The apparatus, may be used to rapidly scan and analyze discrete moving samples for composition analyses, density determination, moisture determination, color, and surface uniformity.

Self-cooling food and beverage containers and processes for manufacturing such containers with cryogenic high-pressure refrigerant cooling apparatus are disclosed. A self-cooling beverage container apparatus containing a beverage or other food product, a method of storing cryogenic gases which then cool said food products, and to methods of assembling and operating the apparatus. A self-cooling beverage container includes a container body having an openable portion, a pressure vessel substantially housed within said container body, the pressure vessel having a first chamber for containing a refrigerant, an actuation valve configurable from a closed configuration wherein the refrigerant is maintained within the pressure vessel to an open configuration wherein said refrigerant is allowed to expand and exit the pressure vessel upon opening of said container whereby refrigerant expansion and flow through said outlet conduit cools the contents of said container.

A method and structure of providing a doped plug to improve the performance of CCD gaps is discussed. A highly-doped region is implemented in a semiconductor, aligned beneath a gap. The plug provides a highly-conductive region at the semiconductor surface, therefore preventing the development of a region where potential is significantly influenced by surface charges.

Abstract:
A water dispensing system adapted for fully integrated installation within a vehicle for use in a wide variety of water dispensing applications and uses is disclosed. The system includes a water storage tank, a pump having an inlet in fluid communication with the water storage tank, a water hose having an inlet in fluid communication with the pump outlet, and a manually actuated flow control nozzle in fluid communication with the hose outlet. A vehicle fuel tank is partitioned so as to provide dual compartments capable of holding both fuel for the vehicle, and water for use with the system. The pump is preferably electrically connected to the vehicles electric power system. In an alternate embodiment, a compressed gas functions as the pumping source thereby eliminating the need for an electric pump. It has been found that using a partitioned tank to hold both water and fuel results in heating the water thereby providing the user with a source of warm water for use in any of a wide variety of purposes, such as washing the vehicle, bathing, and fire extinguishing.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an apparatus for adding or subtracting an amount charge to or from a charge packet in a CCD as the packet traverses the CCD. The apparatus uses a “wire transfer” device structure to perform the addition or subtraction of charge during the charge packets traversal across the device. A pair of electrically interconnected diffusions are incorporated within the charge couple path to provide an amount of charge which can be added or subtracted from packets as the packets traverse the CCD.

An infant carriage transport apparatus, adapted with a large storage bin. By providing a utility cart having a conventional child seat combined with substantial load carrying capacity, the present invention allows a caregiver to simultaneously transport a child along with substantial loads of laundry, groceries, and the like. The utility cart includes a collapsible frame assembly adapted with a plurality of wheels, handles for pushing, an infant seat, and at least one large capacity storage bin. In various embodiments, the storage bin may be located is located toward the front or rear of the cart and provides a deep, large volume compartment suitable for receiving large loads of laundry, grocery bags, etc. The storage bin is defined by flexible fabric walls that include at least one opening and closing portion for providing access. The utility cart may further be adapted with one or more rearwardly disposed shelves and a removable top mounted tray configured with partitions and cup holders.

A technique for improving scalability and portability of a storage management system is disclosed. In one particular exemplary embodiment, the technique may be realized as a storage management system operatively coupled to a storage system. The storage management system may comprise a plurality of processor modules, wherein each processor module is capable of intercepting write commands directed to the storage system, backing up data associated with the write commands, and generating metadata having timestamps for the backup data. The storage management system may also comprise one or more indexing modules that create one or more indexing tables for the backup data based on the metadata, wherein the one or more indexing modules are in communication with the processor modules and the storage system.
Abstract:
A technique for correcting charge transfer inefficiencies in a Charge Coupled Device (CCD). The basic approach is to estimate the charge entering at a given stage in a CCD pipeline, and to then determine an estimate of the error introduced by the accumulated leftover charge that will be present at a second point, farther down the pipeline. The error is then corrected by injecting a correcting charge at a third point, farther still down the CCD pipeline. The invention is used, in one embodiment, to correct the output of a charge to digital converter, although principals of the invention may be used for other types of circuits.
