    摘要： There is provided a liquid crystalline compound having a high voltage holding ratio which has a very small degree of temperature dependence, a low threshold voltage which has a very small degree of temperature dependence, a high &Dgr;n, and excellent miscibility with other liquid crystal materials at low temperature; a liquid crystal composition; and a liquid crystal display element, and the liquid crystalline compound is a substituted benzene derivative represented by general formula (1), where, R represents a straight chain or branched alkyl group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms in which each of optional and nonadjacent methylene groups (—CH2—) may be substituted by an oxygen atom; X represents a halogen atom, —CF3, —CF2H, —CFH2, —OCF3 or —OCF2H; each of Z1 and Z2 independently represents —(CH2)2—, —(CH2)4—, —CH2O—, —OCH2— or a covalent bond, but Z1 and Z2 are not covalent bonds simultaneously; each of Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4, Y5, and Y6 independently represents H or F, but at least one of Y1, Y2, Y3, and Y4 represents F.

    摘要： Novel liquid crystalline compounds which have a wide temperature range of liquid crystal phase, are excellent in miscibility with other liquid crystalline compounds, have a low viscosity, are low in toxicity, and are safe; liquid crystal compositions comprising the liquid crystalline compound; and liquid crystal display devices fabricated by using the composition are provided; and the compounds are cyclohexane derivatives expressed by the general formula (1) wherein R represents an alkylene chain having 2 to 10 carbon atoms in which alkylene chain ethylene group (—CH2CH2—) may be replaced by ethenylene group (—CH═CH—) or methylenoxy group (—OCH2—); and M represents COOH or CN group.

    摘要： There is provided an electrically and chemically stable liquid crystalline compound which exhibits a significantly large value of De and a high voltage holding ratio. The compound is a phenyldioxane derivative represented by formula (1): ##STR1## wherein R represents a C1-C20 alkyl group; each of n1 and n2 represents 0 or 1; each of Q.sub.1 through Q.sub.6 represents a hydrogen atom, a fluorine atom, or a chlorine atom, provided that Q.sub.3 is a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom when n2 is 0, and that at least one of Q.sub.1 and Q.sub.3 is a fluorine atom or a chlorine atom when n2 is 1; each of Za and Zb represents a single bond, --COO--, or --CF.sub.2 O--; Zc represents a single bond or --CH.sub.2 CH.sub.2 --; Y represents a hydrogen atom, a halogen atom, or a C1-C5 halogenated alkyl group in which one or more non-adjacent methylene groups may be replaced by oxygen atoms or sulfur atoms; and each of the elements that constitute the compound may comprise isotopes of the element. The compound also exhibits excellent compatibility with previously known liquid crystalline compounds, and is advantageously used for low voltage driving of liquid crystal displays for TFTs. There are also provided liquid crystal compositions comprising the compound, as well as liquid crystal display elements constructed of the compositions.
