Abstract:
An apparatus for wireless communication obtains a first metric of a cell based on signals received by a WWAN radio tuned to a common frequency, and a second metric of the cell based on signals received by a WLAN radio tuned to the common frequency. The apparatus determines a calibration factor based on the first and second metrics, and performs cell search and cell measurement based on the calibration factor and signals received by the WLAN radio tuned to a target frequency. The common frequency may be a serving frequency of the WWAN, in which case the first and second metrics are one of frequency or power metrics and the calibration factor is one of a frequency offset and a power offset. The common frequency may also be a target frequency for inter-frequency measurements of the WWAN, in which case the calibration factor is based primarily on power measurements.
Abstract:
Wireless communication systems and methods of scheduling access terminal responses to an interactive multicast message are provided. A radio access network (RAN) generates an access control message (ACM), the ACM indicating feedback instructions for a plurality of access terminals (ATs) belonging to a given multicast group. The feedback instructions of the ACM designate a temporary manner in which the plurality of access terminals are to respond to an interactive multicast message. The target ATs receive the interactive multicast message as well as the ACM. The target ATs, or multicast group members, respond to the interactive multicast message based on the feedback instructions for the plurality of access terminals indicated by the ACM.
Abstract:
A communication system operates in the first power state during a communication session. The system transitions from the first to a second power state, when a first predefined time period expires after transfer of a packet and before a transfer of a next packet, for any of and no more than a first N packets in the communication session. Alternatively or in addition, the system transitions from the first to the second power state when: (a) the first predefined time period expires after transfer of a packet and before transfer of a next packet in the communication session and (b) the size of each packet transferred thus far in the communication session is not greater than S.
Abstract:
A method of coordinating a small cell with a plurality of small cells includes estimating backhaul bandwidth and backhaul bandwidth utilization of the small cell; estimating aggregate bandwidth utilization for the small cell and the plurality of small cells based on the estimated backhaul bandwidth utilization for each of the small cells; selecting the small cell as a cluster head for a cluster of the small cells based on the estimated aggregate backhaul bandwidth utilization, the cluster including at least some of the small cells; and communicating, via the cluster head, information between a network entity and the small cells of the cluster.
Abstract:
Methods, systems, and devices for facilitating mobility between flexible bandwidth systems and other bandwidth systems are provided. These tools and techniques that provide mobility between different bandwidth systems may facilitate supporting circuit-switched (CS) services, such as CS voice services. Some embodiments provide for determining flexible bandwidth capable devices, such as user equipment. Some embodiments involve core network redirection where a core network may direct the handling of circuit-switched services when a flexible bandwidth system does not support the CS services. Some examples provide for radio access network determined handling of CS services when a flexible bandwidth system may not support the CS services. Some embodiments provide for transitioning to a flexible bandwidth system. Some embodiments provide for transitioning from flexible bandwidth systems to non-flexible bandwidth systems that have no support for some or all CS services, other flexible bandwidth systems, and/or systems that natively support CS voice services.
Abstract:
Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to apparatuses and methods that can improve Bluetooth (BT) and Wireless Local Area Network (WLAN) coexistence at a BT/WLAN co-located wireless communication device. Various coexistence schemes are provided such as dynamic WLAN fragmentation based on high priority BT traffic by utilizing various techniques and signaling schemes. In some aspects of the disclosure, narrow-band active interference cancellation may be combined with dynamic WLAN fragmentation to further improve BT/WLAN coexistence performance.
Abstract:
An embodiment is directed to an access network that configures set of paging indicator (PI) bits within a quick paging channel (QPCH) cycle to page a group of access terminals. An access terminal within the group receives the QPCH cycle, and evaluates the PI bits to determine whether a unicast page and/or group page is present. Another embodiment is directed to selecting less than all timeslots in one or more control channel cycles of a downlink control channel, and configuring a page message to convey the selected timeslots to an access terminal. The access terminal receives the configured page message and decodes information only within the selected timeslots. Another embodiment is directed to generating a transport-layer message for transmission to at least one access terminal, and configuring the transport-layer message by modifying an application-layer portion of the transport-layer message. An access terminal receives the message and extracts the application-layer portion.
Abstract:
An access network (AN) receives a call announcement message for transmission to an access terminal (AT). The AN initiates, in response to the received call announcement message, a physical-layer synchronization procedure for at least one channel between the AN and the AT, the physical-layer synchronization procedure associated with a transition of the access terminal to a dedicated channel state. The AN performs the initiation by sending a message to the AT. In response to the message, the AT monitors a downlink channel for receipt of the call announcement message. The AN then transmits the call announcement message on the downlink channel to the access terminal, and the AT receives the call announcement message due to the monitoring. The call announcement message is transmitted either (i) before the physical layer synchronization procedure completes or (ii) before a transmission of a reconfiguration complete message indicating completion of dedicated channel state transition.

A method of managing uplink interference at a base station includes: detecting uplink interference caused by one or more inter-cell user equipments to an uplink channel of a base station, the one or more inter-cell user equipments associated with a neighboring base station; receiving, at the base station, assistance information from the neighboring base station, the assistance information comprising a parameter list of ongoing transmissions by the one or more user equipments associated with the neighboring base station; and performing uplink interference cancellation, at the base station, on at least a portion of a received signal based on the assistance information to generate a resulting signal.
Abstract:
In an embodiment, a secondary communication terminal (CT) executes a client application to engage in a client application session (CAS), the secondary CT configured to connect to a primary CT over a local wireless connection (LWC), the primary CT having a higher-quality user interface environment as compared to the secondary CT. The secondary CT establishes the LWC with the primary CT during the CAS and, responsive to the establishment, negotiates with the primary CT to selectively transition the CAS to the primary CT. Alternatively, the primary CT executes the client application before the establishment and negotiates with the secondary CT to selectively transition the CAS to the secondary CT. In another embodiment, the primary CT hosts the CAS while the LWC is established with the secondary CT. Then, upon disconnection of the LWC, the secondary AT selectively transitions the CAS to the secondary CT.
