    Abstract: Aspects relate to mechanisms for generating an enhanced beamforming codebook to cover an out-of-coverage region of an antenna module of a wireless communication device (e.g., a UE). The UE may include an initial beamforming codebook configuring a plurality of beam weights intended to cover an in-coverage region corresponding to a boresight direction and a neighborhood thereof of the antenna module. The UE may further configure one or more additional sets of beam weights intended to cover the out-of-coverage region beyond the boresight direction and the neighborhood thereof and then add the one or more additional sets of beam weights to the initial beamforming codebook to produce the enhanced beamforming codebook.

    Abstract: A dual-polarized multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO) mobile device is provided that includes a first array of antennas and a second array of antennas. Based upon a blockage of at least one of the array of antennas being less than a blockage threshold, the mobile device operates in a default configuration in which a default polarization selection from the second array is used in combination with a fixed polarization selection from the first array to form a first MIMO layer signal and a second MIMO layer signal. Should the blockage exceed the blockage threshold and an optional performance threshold be satisfied, the mobile device may operate in a dynamic configuration in which a dynamic polarization selection from the second array is reversed as compared to the default polarization selection.

In some aspects, a user equipment (UE) may transmit, to a network node, a polarization performance loss indication that is indicative of a loss in polarization performance based on transitioning from a first operating state associated with a first frequency range to a second operating state associated with a second frequency range, wherein the first operating state corresponds to a first antenna configuration and the second operating state corresponds to a second antenna configuration, wherein the first antenna configuration corresponds to a first antenna orientation and the second antenna configuration corresponds to a second antenna orientation. The UE may receive, from the network node, configuration information indicative of at least one communication parameter associated with the at least one antenna array and based on the polarization performance loss indication.     Abstract: The present disclosure provides for beam selection by a mobile device based on a sensor state of the mobile in order to mitigate hand blockage. The mobile device detects, during operation of the mobile device, a sensor state caused by a hand of an operator on the mobile device. The mobile device selects for communication, while operating in the sensor state, a refined beam set corresponding to the sensor state based on reference signals. The mobile device trains a machine learning model based on a set of training data including pairs of the sensor state and the refined beam set to select a first set of beam weights from a second set of beam weights based on a detected sensor state. The mobile device selects for communication a hand blockage state including the first set of beam weights for a current detected sensor state based on the machine learning model.

    Abstract: Aspects described herein include methods and devices for radar integration with a mmW communication module. In some aspects, an apparatus is provided that includes a millimeter wave (mmW) printed circuit board (PCB), with first and second mmW elements, and a radar antenna. The first mmW element is coupled to a first side of the mmW PCB, where the first mmW element is configured for wireless mmW communications at frequencies above approximately 24 gigahertz (GHz). A second mmW element coupled to the first side of the mmW PCB, where the second mmW element is positioned adjacent to the first mmW element and is separated from the first mmW element by a gap spacing. A radar antenna is disposed in the mmW PCB and aligned with the gap spacing between the first mmW element and the second mmW element.
