摘要: A method for performing a surgical procedure includes the steps of: accessing a surgical site with an access member, the access member having proximal and distal ends, and defining a longitudinal axis, the access member having an elongated element operatively connected thereto; transitioning the access member from a first condition having a first dimension orthogonal to the longitudinal axis to a second condition having a second dimension orthogonal to the longitudinal axis greater than the first dimension by drawing the elongated element in a proximal direction; anchoring the access member within a tissue passage leading to the surgical site when in the second condition thereof; and introducing a surgical object through a longitudinal opening of the access member to perform a surgical task.

摘要: A surgical portal apparatus includes a portal having an elongated portal member and defining a portal passage for reception of a surgical object, and a locking base. The locking base includes a flange segment defining a longitudinal axis and having a longitudinal opening for permitting reciprocal longitudinal passage of the portal member and a locking segment mounted to the flange segment. The flange segment is dimensioned and configured for positioning against body tissue. The locking segment is dimensioned to selectively engage the portal member and establish a secured relation therewith to selectively secure the portal at a predetermined longitudinal position with respect to the longitudinal axis of the locking base. The flange segment of the locking base may include an adhesive coating for adhesive engagement with the body tissue.

In one embodiment, the disclosed surgical access includes a housing with proximal and distal ends that is configured to removably receive at least one surgical instrument, a tubular member that extends distally from the housing along a longitudinal axis, a connective member that is secured to the tubular member, either internally or externally, at least one filament that is secured to the connective member so as to extend proximally therefrom, and at least one manual member that is secured to the at least one filament.

摘要: A safety trocar assembly incorporating an airbag is provided to prevent overpenetration of the safety trocar assembly through an abdominal wall and into a body cavity. The safety trocar assembly includes an airbag cannula having an expandable airbag proximal of the distal end of the cannula. A sensing device is located at a distal end of the cannula for detecting changes in conditions at the distal end of the cannula. A trigger mechanism is provided on the cannula and operates to inflate the airbag in response to a change in condition detected by the sensing device.

摘要: A safety trocar assembly incorporating an airbag is provided to prevent overpenetration of the safety trocar assembly through an abdominal wall and into a body cavity. The safety trocar assembly includes an airbag cannula having an expandable airbag proximal of the distal end of the cannula. A sensing device is located at a distal end of the cannula for detecting changes in conditions at the distal end of the cannula. A trigger mechanism is provided on the cannula and operates to inflate the airbag in response to a change in condition detected by the sensing device.

摘要: A handle assembly for operating an articulatable surgical instrument is provided and includes a housing; an actuation shaft translatably and rotatably supported in the housing; a first trigger supported on the housing and connected to the actuation shaft, the first trigger being configured to translate the actuation shaft to operate a first function of the surgical instrument; a second trigger supported on the housing and connected to the actuation shaft, the second trigger being configured to rotate the actuation shaft to operate a second function of the surgical instrument; and a second-trigger release supported in the housing, the second-trigger release having a first position blocking actuation of the second trigger and a second position permitting actuation of the second trigger, where the second-trigger release is actuated from the first position to the second position upon and complete actuation of the first trigger.

摘要: An end effector for a surgical instrument includes a cartridge assembly housing a plurality of fasteners, an anvil assembly operatively connected to the cartridge assembly, and a transducer operably connected to at least one of the cartridge assembly and the anvil assembly. The anvil assembly and the cartridge assembly are movable between open and closed positions. The transducer is adapted to effect vibrations along at least one of the anvil assembly and the cartridge assembly. The vibrations reduce the friction on the end effector, thereby reducing the force necessary to fire the end effector.
