摘要:
This specification discloses an apparatus in which data regarding the proper lens positions of a diopter correcting lens when an observer is wearing spectacles and when the observer is not wearing spectacles are pre-stored in a memory circuit, the presence or absence of the spectacles is detected by a detecting circuit for detecting the state of an anterior eye part, the data in the memory circuit are extracted in conformity with this state, and the diopter correcting lens is moved on the basis of these data.

A balloon catheter used for intra-aortic balloon pumping (IABP). In the balloon catheter, an outer diameter of a catheter tube is not made constant in the axial direction. Rather, the outer diameter of the catheter tube from a hemostatic valve to a bifurcation, the portion which is positioned outside the patient's blood vessel, is made 3 to 30 percent larger than the outer diameter of the catheter tube from the balloon portion to the hemostatic valve, which is positioned inside the patient's blood vessel. The bifurcation has a first passage and a second passage. The first passage is communicating with a shuttle gas port and is disposed straight along the direction of the axial center of the catheter tube. In the balloon catheter, improvements in a channel resistance of a shuttle gas and in the response can be expected compared with the conventional balloon catheter, where the blood pressure measurement port (the second passage) was disposed straight along the direction of the axial center of the catheter tube and the outer diameter of the catheter tube was made constant in the axial direction.

An apparatus for assisting blood circulation includes an inflow tube which can be inserted into the right atrium from a peripheral blood vessel or which can be inserted into the left atrium from a peripheral blood vessel through the right atrium and the foramen ovale of the interarterial septum. An outflow tube is inserted into the aorta or into the carotid artery from a peripheral blood vessel to deliver the blood to the aorta or to the carotid artery. The outlet tube has an outlet for blood on the side of a upstream part of the tube and a blood pump which can take in the blood from the inflow tube and send out the blood to the outflow tube. When the former inflow tube is used, it also comprises an oxygen gas exchanger which exchanges carbon dioxide in the blood for oxygen. The apparatus can be very easily applied to the patient without thoracotomy to assist the circulation of blood. The function of the lung is assisted, the load on the heart is reduced and the blood flow volume of the coronary artery is increased. The circulation of blood in the whole body or in the brain is assisted.

A temporary pacing catheter having an integrally attached temporary pacemaker function is disclosed. The pacemaker integrally built in this catheter for temporary pacing has a very small size and can be fixed to the body of a patient, and therefore, the patient can be transferred conveniently. Furthermore, if this catheter is packaged in the sterilized condition, problems or another's help required for the connection of the catheter to the pacemaker and the like operations in the conventional technique can be avoided, and therefore, the packaged catheter is suitably used for an emergency treatment. Moreover, if a balloon is attached and arranged so that when the balloon is inflated, the balloon envelopes an electrode at the distal end, the catheter can be caused to flow in the heart and blood vessel safely and promptly.

An interfacial component detection apparatus has a plurality of electrodes spaced from one another on a first solid portion and a solid electrolytic layer on the first solid portion adjacent to an interfacial layer and covering the plurality of electrodes. An I/O device applies an electrical signal between the two electrodes and detects electrical signals from the electrodes. Components of the interfacial layer can be accurately and reliably detected by electrolysis and impedance measurements.

A system for automatically adjusting the focus of lens is provided with an auxiliary arrangement for forcibly shifting the lens to a predetermined position when the focus detection by a focus detecting system is either difficult or impossible with the lens being at its initial position and causing the focus detecting system to effect focus detection under the new shifted condition of the lens.

A balloon catheter including a connecting member, a catheter shaft, a balloon and a heat-generating member. The heat-generating member is in contact with a fluid in a distal portion of the catheter shaft. A method for treating a patient including introducing a low temperature fluid which flows through the balloon, introducing energy into a catheter shaft, and converting the energy into heat by a heat-generating member to heat the fluid, whereby an organ of the patient is heated and cooled. In the method, a portion of a diseased tissue of the organ is (i) heated from 35 to 40° C. to 60 to 80° C. within 30 seconds, (ii) expanded by applying a pressure of 500 kPa or smaller to the balloon, and (iii) cooled to 45° C. or lower within 40 seconds.

An image forming apparatus includes: an image carrier having an endless circumferential surface on which a latent image is formed due to an electrostatic potential difference; a developing device that attaches a toner to the image carrier to form a toner image; an endless intermediate transfer belt that is entrained around a plurality of roll members and moves circumferentially, and contacts the image carrier to transfer the toner image to the intermediate transfer belt; a transferring device that further transfers the toner image that has been transferred to the intermediate transfer belt, to a recording sheet; and a load applying member that cooperates with one of the roll members placed inside the intermediate transfer belt, to nip the intermediate transfer belt to apply a load to the intermediate transfer belt, the load applying member contacting a non-image region of the intermediate transfer belt.
