摘要： The dryer section of a machine for manufacturing a paper web includes at least one and more usually a plurality of heatable drying cylinders, each of which is wrapped over a part of its circumferential surface by the web of material to be dried. A support belt is guided by guide rolls to wrap over a part of the circumference of each of the drying cylinders and over the web. A pressing device presses against the support belt to press the web of material against the drying cylinder. That pressing device may comprise a pressure box outside the support belt to which air or steam pressure is applied. The pressure box may include several zones either along the web path or transverse to the web path permitting different pressures to be applied. The pressing device may alternately comprise a plurality of pressing rolls extending transversely to the web axis and parallel to the drying cylinder axis and being biased against the support belt, e.g., by springs, and supported on a support which moves the pressing rolls toward the support belt.

The first press is fashioned as a single-felted shoe press and configured such that the one web side will make contact with a first smooth press element. The second press is fashioned single-felted as well and configured such that the other web side makes contact with a second, smooth press element. A web transport system is provided between each two adjacent presses. The invention is characterized in that the web transport system features a guide roll with smooth shell surface serving to pick up the web, at least during normal operation, directly from the smooth press element of the first press.

The paper web which is to be dewatered passes through the first extended press nip between two endless felt belts (11, 13).In accordance with the invention, the paper web runs through the second extended press nip together with only one (11 or 13) of the two felt belts. As a result the paper web (9) comes into contact with the smooth outer surface of the second press roll. Because of this arrangement the flexible press member can have a rough outer surface formed, for example, by the joggles of a reinforcing fabric.

The flexible, liquid impervious endless belt press shell has lateral edge zones. Each edge zone has a respective plurality of outwardly projecting tongues and has cutouts between neighboring tongues. The edge zone is turned radially inward and its tongues are each respectively mounted on a holding element projecting from the face side of the shell support element. Centering elements also ono the face side of the shell support element are placed each for extending into and contacting the base of the cutouts between neighboring tongues for positioning the tongues.

摘要： A press roll for acting in opposition to a counter roll. The press roll has a support member which is supported at its opposite ends. The support member is stationary in certain most embodiments and rotatable in one embodiment. A flexible, liquid-tight endless press jacket is wrapped around the support member. At each lateral end of the press roll, the press jacket is fastened to the outward end of a supporting disk, which is rotatably mounted on the support member. The lateral edge zones of the press jacket are both deformed radially inwardly around the outside of the respective supporting disks and each edge zone is clamped there by a annular clamping flange. To facilitate deformation of the edge zones, at least one of the edge zones terminates in a series of tongues separated by cutouts arrayed around the roll. Coiled tension springs engage the edge zone and/or the tongues to pull them in the direction toward the axis of the roll.
