    摘要： A fixing device incorporated in an image forming apparatus and for fixing a toner image on recording paper includes a fixing roller in which a heater is installed in the roller, a pressure roller which is held in press contact with the fixing roller, an oil application roller which is held in contact with the fixing roller for applying oil to the fixing roller, an oil supply roller which is held in contact with the oil application roller for applying oil to the oil application roller, an oil application felt which is held in contact with the oil supply roller for applying oil to the oil supply roller, and a driver which rotates the oil application roller such that the oil application roller moves in the same direction as the fixing roller at the contact portion between the fixing roller and the oil application roller. The surface velocity of the oil application roller is lower than the surface velocity of the fixing roller.

    摘要： A communication system includes: an image forming unit connected to a communication line through a communication control unit; and a management unit for managing data of resources of the image forming unit, the management unit being connected to the communication line, the image forming unit including: at least one component part; a first storage part for storing a control program for the component part, so that the component part is controlled in accordance with the control program; and a first control part for transmitting a first code to the management unit via the communication line in response to an update request signal, the first code indicating a model of the image forming unit and indicating a type of the component part, the management unit including: a second storage part for storing a plurality of control programs for different types of the component part of the image forming unit; and a second control part for reading out a first control program from the second storage part in accordance with the first code received from the first control part, and for transmitting the first control program to the image forming unit via the communication line, so that the first control program is stored in the first storage part.

    摘要： A transfer device for use in an image forming apparatus includes at least two belt members constituting a secondary nip portion therebetween. The transfer device electrostatically transfers a toner image from one of the belt members onto a recording medium when the recording medium passes through the secondary nip portion. The transfer device includes a mechanism that supports the belt members such that the secondary nip portion is substantially linear; and a bias applying member that applies a secondary transfer bias at a substantially center portion of the secondary nip portion.

    摘要： An image forming apparatus includes at least one image forming unit, a primary transfer belt, and a secondary transferer. The image forming unit includes an image carrier and a primary transfer bias applicator. The secondary transferer includes a secondary transfer nip, a secondary transfer bias applicator, and a facing member facing the second transfer bias applicator. The secondary transfer bias applicator forms a secondary transfer electric field. The image forming apparatus further includes a bias applicator, a contact start site, and an electrode. The bias applicator applies a bias voltage having a same polarity as the normal charge polarity of the toner to the primary transfer belt, downstream of the primary transfer bias applicator. The recording medium starts to contact the toner image at the contact start site, located upstream of the secondary transfer nip, where the electrode forms an electric field.
