    摘要: A probe, listen and select (PLS) technique can be used to select from an available frequency spectrum a frequency band whose communication quality is suitable for wireless communication at a desired rate. Probe packets can be transmitted on different frequencies (223) during a known period of time (TPLS), and frequency channel quality information can be obtained (225) from the probe packets. This quality information can then be used to select a desirable frequency band (227). The communication quality of the selected band can also be used as basis for selecting (141) from among a plurality of modulation and coding combinations that are available for use in communications operations.

    摘要: A wireless communication network (10). The network comprises a wireless receiver (14). The receiver comprises at least one antenna (AT14) for receiving a plurality of frames in a form of a plurality of paths. Each of the plurality of frames is modulated by a plurality of chips, and chip in the plurality of chips has a like chip duration. The receiver further comprises a plurality of path resources (F1, F2), and this plurality of path resources comprises a first path resource (F1) configured to receive a first plurality of symbols from a first path in the plurality of paths and a second path resource (F2) configured to receive a second plurality of symbols from a second path in the plurality of paths. The plurality of path resources also comprises circuitry for sampling the second path at a time less than the chip duration from a time when the circuitry for sampling samples the first path. Still further, the plurality of path resources comprise circuitry (442, 461), responsive to the circuitry for sampling, for establishing a first channel estimate for the first path in response to the first path and the second path. Lastly, the plurality of path resources comprises circuitry (441, 462), responsive to the circuitry for sampling, for establishing a second channel estimate for the second path in response to the first path and the second path.

    摘要: Antenna reception diversity is provided for wireless communications such that a received signal (r) can be produced by combining antenna signals (vi) with their associated fading amplitudes (&agr;i) as estimated by a linear receiver (32). Also, antenna signals (v1i) can be combined with their associated correlation values (&agr;1i) in place of estimated fading amplitudes. Further, inherent characteristics of a non-linear wireless communication receiver can be exploited such that a received signal (r2, r3) can be produced without any additional overhead that would otherwise be needed to provide estimated fading amplitudes.
