Generally, a device in accordance with the present invention includes a mesh-like structure that is integrally composed of a shape-memory alloy such as NiTi. The device is deployed within the aneurysm through the aneurysmal neck. The device is configured to be in a deployed state and an undeployed state, and is configured to transition from the undeployed state to the deployed state by exposure to a higher temperature and/or by being unconstrained. The device may function to retain finer vaso-occlusive devices such as vaso-occlusive coils and/or embolic liquids. Furthermore, the device itself may function as a vaso-occlusive device.

The present invention provides a portable illumination apparatus that is quickly installed into an existing cupboard or cabinet. The portable illumination apparatus runs on battery power and typically includes incandescent lamps, or LED lamps. An automatic on/off switching unit is responsive to the opening and closing of the cabinet door. In the preferred embodiment, the switching unit includes a protruding member which extends to the cabinet door. When the cabinet door is closed it rotates or depresses the protruding member, which in turn opens the switching unit contacts. When the cabinet door opens, a resilient member within the switching unit forces the contacts closed, thus providing battery power to the lamps, which then become illuminated.

An assembly for occluding a vascular site (e.g., an aneurysm) of a human or veterinary patient includes a vaso-occlusive member, a pusher member having a distal end and a severable junction located proximal to the distal end, and a pivotable coupling that couples the pusher member to the occlusive member. A delivery catheter can be used to deliver the vaso-occlusive member to the vascular site. A method of using the assembly to occlude an aneurysm having an aneurysmal sac and an aneurysmal neck, comprises locating the catheter within the aneurysmal neck, and manipulating the pusher member to place the vaso-occlusive member within the aneurysmal sac. The method further comprises severing the severable junction to detach the vaso-occlusive member from the pusher member. As a result, an axial force is applied by the vaso-occlusive member in a proximal direction, which buckles the pivotable coupling to laterally deflect the axial force. The lateral deflection of the axial force caused by the buckling of the pivotable coupling prevents the catheter from being displaced from the aneurysmal neck by the axial force.

Methods and kits for delivering an electrode lead into the head of a patient are provided. A burr hole is formed within the cranium of the patient, and an electrode lead is threaded through the burr hole. The electrode lead is then placed in a pre-shaped two-dimensional geometry between the cranium and cortical brain tissue of the patient. An access anchor may be mounted into the burr hole to facilitate introduction and removal of the electrode lead and other devices. In some circumstances, it may be desirable to separate the dura mater overlying the cortical brain tissue from the cortical brain tissue to create a pocket in which the electrode lead may be manipulated. In this case, a tissue layer dissection device can be introduced through the burr hole, operated to separate the dura mater from the cranium, and then removed from the burr hole. In one embodiment, the dissection device comprises a balloon that can be inflated to separate the dura mater and cranium, and then deflated prior to removing the dissection device from the burr hole.

The method comprises intravascularly delivering at least one of a stimulation lead and a sensing lead within the head of the patient. For example, one or both of the leads can be delivered into the patient's head via the circulatory system (e.g., vein or artery) or the ventricular system (e.g., through the intrathecal space of the spine). The method further comprises sensing a physiological event associated with the disorder (e.g., physiological electrical activity, a blood parameter, or intracranial pressure) using the sensing lead, and stimulating neural tissue with the stimulation lead in response to the sensed physiological event.

It has been discovered that using n-butylmethyldimethoxysilane (BMDS) as an external electron donor for Ziegler-Natta catalysts can provide a catalyst system that may prepare polypropylene films with improved properties. The catalyst systems of the invention provide for controlled chain defects/defect distribution and thus a regulated microtacticity. Consequently, the curve of storage modulus (G′) v. temperature is shifted such that the film achieves the same storage modulus at a lower temperature enabling faster throughput of polypropylene film through a high-speed tenter.
