    摘要: A color liquid crystal display device includes a first substrate having thereon a layer of plural color filter segments and a layer of first transparent electrodes disposed in superposition with the layer of color filter segments, a second substrate disposed opposite to and spaced apart from the first substrate and having thereon a layer of second transparent electrodes intersecting with the first transparent electrodes, and a liquid crystal disposed between the first and second substrates so as to form plural color pixels each at a region of intersection of the first and second transparent electrodes superposed with one of the color filter segments while leaving a pixel spacing between the plural color pixels. The first substrate is provided with a first light-interrupting layer comprising a material identical to that of at least one of the plural color filter segments and disposed at a portion of the pixel spacing so as to mask the portion, and at least one of the first and second substrates is provided with a second light-interrupting layer masking a remaining portion of the pixel spacing. The first and second light-interrupting layers as a whole are effective in preventing leakage of light between color pixels, thus providing images with a high contrast and an excellent display quality.

    摘要: The invention provides a color liquid crystal panel which has a liquid crystal placed between a first substrate and a second substrate, the first substrate having formed thereon a plurality of color filter films and transparent electrodes and the second substrate having formed thereto a transparent electrode. It also has first light-shielding layer sections. formed on the first substrate either in the same layer as the color filter film or in a layer at the substrate side from the color filter films, without contacting the color filter films. It further has second light-shielding layer sections formed in a layer at the liquid crystal layer side from the color filter films. Light is completely shielded by the first light-shielding layer sections and/or the second light-shielding layer section(s) between the color filter films. Such a color liquid crystal panel is highly effective in shielding the gaps between the color filter films, and is less reflective to external light or the like at the display surface.

A manufacturing method of the hermetic container has: an assembling step of sealing a first glass substrate and a second glass substrate through a circumferential sealing material having plural straight line portions and plural coupling portions which connect the plural straight line portions so as to define an internal space between the first glass substrate and the second glass substrate; and a sealing step of maintaining the internal space to a negative pressure to an outside after the assembling step, applying such local force as to compress the coupling portions of the circumferential sealing material in a thickness direction of the sealing material, and heating and melting the sealing material by irradiating local heating light to the sealing material, to seal the first glass substrate and the second glass substrate.

    摘要: A color liquid crystal display device is constituted by a first substrate having thereon a plurality of scanning electrodes, a second substrate disposed opposite to the first substrate and having thereon a plurality of data electrodes intersecting the scanning electrodes, a liquid crystal disposed between the scanning electrodes and the data electrodes, and color filter segments of at least three colors including red, green and blue disposed so as to form color display pixels each at an intersection of the scanning electrodes and data electrodes. The color filter segments of at least three colors respectively comprise a colored resin segment and are disposed on one of the first and second substrates having fewer electrodes thereon. As a result, the occurrence of defects, such as inclusion of foreign matter leading to short circuit between adjacent electrodes, during the color filter production step can be minimized, thus providing an improved product yield as a whole.

    摘要: A liquid crystal device is formed by disposing a chiral smectic liquid crystal between two groups of electrodes which are disposed opposite to each other and so as to intersect each other. At least one of the two groups of electrodes is covered by an insulating film and an alignment film which are selected and disposed to provide a combined electrostatic capacitance C (nF) and a combined resistance R (.OMEGA.) satisfying a relationship with the spontaneous polarization Ps of the chiral smectic liquid crystal represented by the following formula: 3.gtoreq.-CR[-2.3+ln(C/Ps)]. As a result, there is provided a chiral smectic liquid crystal device which suppress the persistence to a tolerable level while retaining a good switching characteristic.
