Abstract:
Medical instruments, particularly, endodontic instruments with unique limited memory characteristics, and methods for making such instruments. One embodiment includes heat treating a finished endodontic instrument. A related embodiment includes electropolishing a finished endodontic instrument and then heat treating the endodontic instrument.
Abstract:
Handpiece for dental or surgical use including fixed (2) components and moveable components, characterized in that at least some of said fixed (2) and/or moveable components are made from a composite material resulting from the association of at least two distinct basic materials, namely a matrix and a reinforcing agent, the composite material being deposited in one or several layers.
Abstract:
Dental instruments and appliances are manufactured from a superelastic alloy, which includes atoms from the group IVB and group VB transition metals and oxygen so as to exhibit superior strength and flexibility. The metal alloys are cold worked to increase the tensile strength of the dental instruments and appliances. Cold working the metal also increases the flexibility of the dental instruments and appliances and prevents work hardening. Dental instruments made from the superelastic alloy exhibit higher strength, flexibility, resistance to work hardening, and biocompatibility compared to dental instruments made from nickel-titanium alloys. In one particular example a super-elastic endodontic file is described.
Abstract:
This invention takes advantages of color characteristics of medical devices for the cosmetic and indication purposes. For example, the appearances of the metallic brackets used in orthodontics are improved with colors other than the original metallic color by surface treatment using plasma techniques. For example, orthodontic brackets are made with piezochromic materials. When the archwire's torsion and bending forces are fading due to the movement of the teeth, the color of the pressure sensitive brackets will be changed, and the need of archwire's readjustment to have proper torsion and bending forces is signalized. For example, rehabilitation equipments are made with piezochromic materials. When the pressures exerting on the rehabilitation equipments are different, different colors of the equipments are displayed, and the therapists can then act accordingly.
Abstract:
A matrix for making a dental bridge includes a body of a tooth portion and wings, and an interior of the body for receiving a curable flowable material.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an orthodontic splint made of a crosslinked polymer, wherein the crosslinked polymer has a glass transition temperature Tg, determined by means of dynamic-mechanical analysis at a frequency of 1/s DMA as peak tan δ, of ≥25° C. and ≤60° C., a modulus of elasticity, determined by means of dynamic-mechanical analysis as the storage modulus E′ at a frequency of 1/s at 35° C., of ≥500 MPa and ≤4000 MPa, and a loss factor tan δ, determined by means of dynamic-mechanical analysis at a frequency of 1/s at 35° C., of ≥0.08. The invention further relates to a process for producing such splints.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a dental apparatus, wherein the apparatus is made of a polymer composition having antimicrobial activity, wherein the polymer composition contains one or more metal ions and/or metal salts at a concentration of between 0.001% and 10%. The present invention also relates to the use of said dental apparatus in the prevention or treatment of bacterial oral diseases, such as gingivitis, periodontitis and halitosis. As a final aspect, the present invention also relates to a method for producing said dental apparatus.
Abstract:
A harvested botanic offshoot has a first end with a portion thereof stripped of bark forming a botanic cleaning component that is adapted for insertion into a human mouth for dental cleaning. A proximal end of the offshoot can be carved down in size and releasably installed in a socket or internal channel inside a dental cleaning assembly. A motor inside the dental cleaning assembly can vibrate, oscillate or rotate the botanic cleaning component inside a user's mouth. The dental cleaning assembly has an opening arranged to allow at least a portion of the botanic cleaning component to extend outside the body portion of the dental cleaning assembly.
Abstract:
An improved dough-like filler material for use in dental and orthodontic modelling and the manufacturing methods that may be used to produce such improved dough-like filler material.
Abstract:
A surgical guide system for the placement of dental implants includes a guide base attachable to the maxillary or mandibular bone, an aligner attachable to the base and to be positioned in the space relative to the reference tooth, teeth, or other anatomical landmarks remaining in the mouth, and a drilling guide attachable to the guide base and including at least one drill guide hole for guiding a drill. wherein the guide base: is substantially rigid; is resting mostly on the mucosa; is essentially matching the shape of a maxilla or a mandible and present a central part placed on the interior surface of the jaw, intended to provide lingual or palatal support, and is widely perforated along the maxillary or mandibular ridge, in order to allow past any teeth still present at the start of the operation or implants to be installed during the operation.
