A wheel crushing apparatus for crushing scrap vehicle wheels to prepare the scrap wheels for recycling, the scrap wheels having a tire mounted on the wheel, consists of an engine, a hydraulic pump driven by the engine, a single hydraulic cylinder and piston driven by the hydraulic pump, a crushing head to hold the wheel and tire for crushing the wheel, a number of crushing arms concentric about the crushing head, and radially movable between an extended position wherein the crushing arms contact the tire tread and a contracted position wherein the wheel is crushed, and a linkage connecting all of the crushing arms to the single hydraulic piston, so that all of the crushing arms are driven by the single hydraulic piston between the extended position and the contracted position.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for disintegration of thermoplastic elastomeric materials containing fibres, wires or the like. This method comprises the following two steps: subjecting segments of the elastomeric materials to temperatures able to bring the segments into a brittle glass-like state (by means of a freezing chamber), and gradual disintegrating of the frozen segments by disintegrating means provided to separate the segments from the wires and fibres. This disintegration is effected by means of a bending force applied to the frozen segments causing them to break into small particles while the wires and fibres remain substantially intact. After the disintegration, separation of the small particles, wires and fibres takes place by separating means. The disintegrating means comprises a roll means, where the roll means is provided with mating bending surfaces spaced apart from each other at predetermined distances and facilitating maximum bending and breaking of the frozen segments being advanced between the roll means. The roll means may comprise two sets of rolls, where distance between the first set of rolls is bigger than the distance between the second set of rolls to facilitate gradual breaking of the frozen segments. The mating bending surfaces are a plurality of semi-spherical heads, where the heads are spaced from each other in such a way that heads on the mating surface of one roll are mating with a space between heads on the mating surface of another roll.

A motor truck for use in collecting and processing solid waste material such as scrap tires. The truck includes a chassis including a cab; a body structure positioned on the chassis behind the cab and defining a storage chamber; a shredder mounted on top of the body structure forwardly of the storage chamber; a compactor positioned within the body structure beneath the shredder and forwardly of the storage chamber; and a conveyor system for conveying tires from a curbside location upwardly for discharge downwardly into the open upper end of the shredder. The shredded tires are discharged downwardly into the body structure rearwardly of the compactor, whereafter the compactor is actuated to stroke rearwardly and compress the tire shreds into the storage chamber. After the truck has visited a series of retail tire outlets and the storage chamber is full of tire shreds, the truck returns to a recycling facility where a door at the rear of the storage chamber is opened and the compactor is utilized as an ejector to eject the tire shreds from the storage chamber. At the recycling facility the tire shreds are processed to form a rubber crumb material and the rubber crumb material is further processed at further processing facilities to form diverse finished products.

A shearing wheel, and a method of assembling the same, having individually demountable cutting segments, shear knives, and an interlock key assembly to wedge adjacent shear knives together so that each shear knife shares a mounting force of the attachment bolts present on adjacent knives. The shear knives are mounted in successive abutting relation, forming a chevron-shaped aperture into which a rectangular key is wedged. A portion of each shear knife extends radially beyond the annular member. This extending portion forms a toothlike structure for feeding and ripping waste material. A support shoulder extending axially from the annular member contacts and supports the shear knives. The shear knives may be individually removed and resharpened, whereafter shims are positioned between the shear knives and the annular member to properly space the shear knives from an adjacent shearing wheel.

A rubber crumbing apparatus and method for making crumb rubber from tire chips is disclosed. The rubber crumbing apparatus comprises a frame assembly, a first cone assembly including a truncated cone having an interior surface and an opening extending therethrough, and a second cone assembly positioned substantially within the first cone assembly. The second cone assembly includes a truncated cone having an exterior surface in opposing relationship to interior surface of the first truncated cone. The second cone assembly rotates relative to the first cone assembly. A plurality of crumber blades are connected to one of the opposing surfaces and a plurality of beads are attached to the other opposing surface of the truncated cones. The crumber blades are in close proximity to said beads without contacting said beads as the second cone assembly rotates relative to the first cone assembly. Tire chips are fed between the truncated cones. The close proximity of the crumber blades and the beads as the second cone assembly rotates tears the rubber from the tire chips to make crumb rubber.

Waste such as combustible trash and prime garbage is mixed with rubber tires and shredded together to produce a compacted and combustible output product which can be used as a fuel or be incinerated for further compacting.The process involves interengaging rotary feeder-cutter wheels mounted on counterrotating shafts to pull materials through a feed path while shredding with the aid of shredder blades interspersed between the wheels. Feeding, mixing and conveying techniques through one or more shredder stages provide for attainment of high speed feed rates and handling of some degree solid debris such as steel belts in tires.

There is disclosed herein a mobile material shearing apparatus for receiving solid waste material and reducing said material to a comparatively small size. The apparatus includes an elongated movable truck bed on which is mounted a rotary shear into which the solid waste material is fed for size reduction. The smaller solid waste material exits the rotary shear and is received on a conveyor which delivers the material either to a predetermined location for disposal without further processing or to a rotary classificaton mechanism for further processing. The classifier receives the sheared solid waste material and separates particles which are above and below a predetermined size. A discharge is provided for receiving the smaller particles (fines) and means are provided for returning the larger particles (overs) to the shear for further size reduction.
