Abstract:
An electrostatic spray coating apparatus including means for mechanically atomizing coating materials and means for electrostatically charging the atomized material for deposit onto articles, is characterized by an improved material-charging means and an improved means for sealing material passages from the remainder of the apparatus in a manner which contributes to efficient and effective charging of the material, yet minimizes the capacitance of the material charging means, whereby the energy capable of being stored by the charging means is significantly reduced. The spray coating apparatus also includes means ensuring safety of the apparatus, and enhanced overall construction of the apparatus for greater service life, more reliable and safe operation, and economy.

An air-assisted electrostatic round-spray nozzle for liquids, wherein, except for the charging electrode(s), the diffuser, as also the whole of the outer part of the nozzle, is made of electrically insulating material, and whereon the said electrode(s) is/are formed by one or more points or pin-point zones located substantially in the atomizing plane, on or very near the axis of the nozzle.
Abstract:
A spray gun includes several atomizer and a plurality of conduits communicating therewith for supplying different coating materials. A valve needle is disposed in each supply conduit, such needles being individually controlled by pneumatic cylinders. In one embodiment the supply conduits are oriented at an acute angle relative to the axis of the gun barrel. In a second embodiment the supply conduits curve away from such longitudinal axis, with the valve needles formed of elastic material. In a third embodiment the supply conduits extend parallel to the longitudinal axis of the barrel, with the pneumatic cylinder oriented at a right angle relative to the valve needle and connected thereto by means of a knee joint.

The invention is directed to air-liquid atomizing nozzles, particularly for electrostatic paint spray systems. The nozzle of the invention is characterized by having an annular liquid discharge opening closely surrounded by an annular air discharge opening. The arrangement of the air discharge opening is such that the air, while being discharged in a generally cylindrical flow, is caused and permitted immediately to contract in diameter in front of the nozzle, and thereafter to gradually expand in diameter to form a desired paint spray pattern.

An atomizer includes an atomizer body having a liquid inlet and a spray outlet with a liquid flow circuit defined through the inner atomizer body for fluid communication of liquid from the inlet to the spray outlet. The liquid flow circuit branches into a plurality of sub-circuits. Each sub-circuit is configured to produce a spray cone of atomized liquid issuing from the spray outlet such that the spray cone of each sub-circuit has a different cone angle. The sub-circuits are mechanically separated from one another to limit interaction of liquid in the sub-circuits and thereby produce a distinct and stable spray cone from each sub-circuit over a range of liquid flow rates.

A system may include a spray device having a body with a first liquid passage configured to flow a first liquid and a second liquid passage configured to flow a second liquid. The spray device also may include a spray head configured to output a spray of the first liquid and the second liquid. In addition, the spray device may include a multi-component container coupled to the body, wherein the multi-component container comprises a first container portion having a first outlet configured to supply the first liquid to the first liquid passage and a second container portion having a second outlet configured to supply the second liquid to the second liquid passage, and the first and second outlets are positioned in close proximity to one another.
