Abstract:
An enclosing apparatus for enclosing an enclosure into an envelope at an enclosing position includes a conveyance roller that conveys the envelope to the enclosing position and an envelope conveyance path through which the envelope is conveyed. An enclosing support is disposed in the envelope conveyance path and supports enclosing of the enclosure into the envelope. The enclosing support retracts a flap of the envelope from the envelope conveyance path while the conveyance roller conveys the envelope to the enclosing position.
Abstract:
A folding device is provided for folding a sheet comprises a jaw cylinder, a folding cylinder, a paper guide, and an actuator. The jaw cylinder has a jaw, and the folding cylinder has a hold down element and a folding blade. The folding blade is movable between an extended position and a retracted position. The folding blade is in the extended positron to transfer one or more sheets to the jaw cylinder during a fold off operation, and the folding blade is in the retracted position during a collect operation. The paper guide is positioned between the folding cylinder and the jaw cylinder. The paper guide includes a static guide element and a reciprocating guide element connected to the static guide element, the reciprocating guide element movable between a retracted position and an extended position. The actuator is connected to the reciprocating guide element; the actuator configured and arranged to place the reciprocating guide element into the extended position during the collect operation and into the retracted position during the fold-off operation.
Abstract:
An apparatus for treating a stack of sheets of sheet material includes a means for moving the stack of sheets of sheet material towards a first and second fold roller means. The first and second fold roller means are arranged to assist with folding of the stack of sheets of sheet material. The apparatus also includes a first and a second clamping jaw defining a gap. The first and second clamping jaws are arranged to be movable relative to each other to increase and decrease the gap for selective application of a clamping force to the stack of sheets of sheet material having passed between the first and second fold roller means. The first and second fold roller means are mounted in a manner allowing for an increase and decrease in separation and thus between a stack-guiding configuration and a stack compressing configuration.
Abstract:
A method is provided for determining a reference lateral position of a copy in a folding machine, the copy having a given width and being defined by first and second lateral edges, the folding machine being designed to convey the copy in a path and having at least two conveying members that convey the copy over a first portion of the path, each first conveying member defining, for each of the first and second lateral edges, a first preferred lateral zone. At least one of the first preferred lateral zones extends laterally outside the first connected conveying member and laterally overlaps said first conveying member. The reference lateral position is determined such that at least the first lateral edge is situated inside a first preferred lateral zone associated with said first lateral edge. The method may be applied to offset rotary presses.
Abstract:
A puncture or gripper cylinder is provided with at least one puncture strip that is provided with gripper pins or point needles. These pins are extendable from the cylinder to puncture and to grip a signature. At least one deflector is carried on the puncture cylinder and is extendable and retractable with respect to a surface of the cylinder. The deflector, when it is extended at least temporarily shields the signature from subsequent pins.
Abstract:
A parallel folding apparatus of a folding machine comprises a first jaw cylinder and a lower second jaw cylinder arranged with their circumferential surfaces in contact with each other. A guide plate guides a signature which is transported on the lower circumferential surface of the lower second jaw cylinder after being double-folded by grippers of the lower second jaw cylinder in cooperation with knives of the first jaw cylinder. The guide plate comprises a stationary guide located downstream, in the rotating direction, of the point of contact between the first jaw cylinder and the lower second jaw cylinder and disposed continuously along the circumferential surfaces of the first jaw cylinder and the lower second jaw cylinder, and a moving guide disposed to be movable by an air cylinder in accordance with the operating speed of the folding machine between a position, where the moving guide is closer to the circumferential surface of the first jaw cylinder than the stationary guide, and a position, where the moving guide is more remote from the circumferential surface of the first jaw cylinder than the stationary guide.
Abstract:
A parallel folding apparatus includes a folding cylinder having a pin for holding a sheet, and a folding blade; a jaw cylinder having a gripper member which, in cooperation with the folding blade of the folding cylinder, changes gripping of the sheet held by the pin of the folding cylinder such that the sheet is gripped by the gripper member while being folded; and transport belts looped around the jaw cylinder. The apparatus further includes a drive shaft, support arms, guide rollers, and the like for moving, toward the jaw cylinder, portions of the corresponding transport belts located upstream of a point of closest gap between the folding cylinder and the jaw cylinder and biased toward the folding cylinder, at the time of gripping change from the folding cylinder to the jaw cylinder.
Abstract:
A system for producing folded articles includes a cutting station (56) operable to segment a fabric web (42, 44) into a continuous stream of individual web segments (74, 76). The system also includes a first folding station (58) operable to fold each of the web segments (74, 76). The system further includes a spacing station (88) operable to receive the stream of web segments (74, 76) from the folding station (58) and deliver the stream of web segments (74, 76) at a predetermined spacing to correspond with a packaging registration.
Abstract:
A signature ejecting assembly for use in a folding apparatus in a printing press. A first rotatably mounted surface is provided, and a second rotatably mounted surface is movingly mounted on a bracket. The first and second rotatably mounted surfaces located within the product transfer area or nip of the folding apparatus. The second rotatably mounted surface exerts a positive drive force upon loosely held or bunched signatures during start-up, thereby ejecting the signatures and preventing jams in the folding apparatus.
Abstract:
A folder (58) of the type having a folding cylinder (16) cooperating with a jaw cylinder (20) to cut and fold a ribbon of paper (14) into a folded product (14') provided with a guide assembly (60) with a guide surface defined by a nonconcentric guide with a convex section (64) and a convex section (74) joined together end-to-end to form a generally S-shaped or approximately cubical parabolic guide surface which conforms to the natural flow shape of the product (14') for minimum interference therewith to reduce the formation of dog-ears.
