    Abstract: Described herein is a torque-limiting coupling provided for connecting coaxial, first and second rotating shafts. The coupling includes a first connecting part on an end of the first shaft and a second connecting part on an end of the second shaft. An interconnector joins to the first connecting part at a first engagement formation, and joins to the second connecting part at a second engagement formation. The first engagement formation threadingly joins the interconnector to the first connecting part. The second engagement formation can resist rotational movement of the interconnector relative to the second connecting part but allows movement of the interconnector in the axial direction of the shafts. When a torque transmitted by the shafts exceeds a predetermined value, the interconnector rotates relative to the first connecting part at the threaded engagement formation. The resistance to rotational movement relative to the second connecting part causes the interconnector to move in an axial direction of the shafts, and come out of engagement with the first and/or the second connecting part.

    Abstract: A steering coupling reduces the rotational force felt by a driver should the wheels impact an obstacle. The coupling is particularly suited for vehicles comprising simple, single-unit steering assemblies. The coupling permits a certain amount of slippage between the wheels and the steering wheel without a total loss of steering. The driver may set a threshold torque at which slippage occurs, thereby controlling the “feel” of the steering. The coupling includes a friction disc that permits rotational movement between two housings in the steering assembly.

    Abstract: A coupling device has a pulley that receives rotational torque from an engine. The torque is transmitted to a shaft through a hub and a one-way clutch. A torque limiter is screwed on the shaft to fasten the inner ring of the one-way clutch onto the shaft. The torque limiter has a breakable portion. The torque is directly transmitted from the inner ring to the shaft when the torque is normal. If the torque exceeds the tightening torque of the torque limiter, the inner ring begins to slide and rotate, and drives the torque limiter in a tightening direction. As the torque limiter is tightened additionally, the tensile stress on the breakable portion is increased. Then, the breakable portion breaks and is separated in axial direction so that the coupling device disconnects torque transmission.

    Abstract: In a steering assist system for providing steering assist by transmitting the rotation of an electric motor to a steering shaft via a worm shaft and a worm wheel meshed with a worm of the worm shaft, an output shaft of the electric motor and the worm shaft are inteconnected via a joint. The joint includes a cylindrical first transmission member mounted on the output shaft, a cylindrical second transmission member to which the worm shaft is mounted, and a cylindrical elastic body formed of rubber or the like and interposed between the first and second transmission members. The joint may further include a torque limiter including a spring which is interposed between an end surface of the second transmission member and a spring seat formed at an end surface of a third transmission member in opposed relation with the end surface of the second transmission member for inhibiting relative rotation between the second and third transmission members by way of frictional resistance at a contact surface between the spring and at least either one of these transmission members.

    Abstract: A slip clutch mechanism is provided with a clutch shaft rotated by a driving power source, a pair of slip pinions supported on the clutch shaft in such a manner as to be rotatable around the clutch shaft, and a pair of slip washers supported on the clutch shaft, in such a manner as to be rotatable as unified with the clutch shaft and movable in the axial direction of the clutch shaft and as to get into frictional contact with the individual sliding pinions at the inner sides thereof.     Abstract: There is disclosed a slip clutch useful for the fixed adjustability of an indexed knob on a control shaft of a device such as thermostatically controlled gas valve for a water heater. The clutch comprises the assembly of a shaft with a reduced end portion to provide an annular distal shoulder, a ring received over the end and having a radial tab, a spring washer also received over the end of the shaft and resiliently biasing the ring against the annular shoulder and an outwardly flared end of the shaft to secure the assembly. The end of the shaft is hollow form and has internal wrench flats so that the shaft can be immobilized and the ring rotated about the shaft. The control knob is received over the ring and has a radial slot which receives the radial tab.
