Abstract:
A seam for ductwork has a male end portion integrally formed at a distal end of a duct wall and a female end portion integrally formed at another distal end of the duct wall. The female end portion includes a first fold and a second fold, which define a female groove for accommodating the male portion. A distal end of the second fold is bent transverse to the female groove prior to the male portion being inserted into the female groove.
Abstract:
The invention is a method for threading a thin string through an HVAC duct system from a vent to the HVAC equipment supply plenum where the vent is connected to a small supply duct which in turn is connected to a large supply trunk connected to the plenum. The method uses a high speed blower at the vent to propel a small resistance object connected to the string through the small duct until it reaches the trunk. Then a capture mechanism is used from the HVAC plenum to capture the object and pull the string to the plenum. In an example of the method, the resistant object includes a packed parachute that is released after it travels a predetermined distance.
Abstract:
It is disclosed a connecting device for the manufacture of ducts for heating, conditioning, ventilation comprising a plate-like element (2) which is provided, on a face (2a) thereof at opposite positions, with at least two hooking points (3) adapted to penetrate contiguous portions to be joined of a duct (4) segment or of two consecutive duct segments. Also provided is a connecting process comprising a step of applying at least one connecting device (19 on either side of a junction line (4a) defined by two opposite longitudinal bands of a panel. (5) adapted to form a duct (4) segment.
Abstract:
An access panel assembly for providing access to a duct through an opening in the duct. The access panel assembly comprises a sealing member, a cover member and fasteners. The sealing member fits around the opening in the duct and the cover member fits over the sealing member and coupled to the duct by the fasteners. The cover member may comprise a fire resistant panel and is formable to the shape of the duct thereby allowing the access panel assembly to be fitted to irregular shaped ducts or openings in the ducts. The access panel assembly allows easy and ready access to the interior of ducts or other air handling equipment to permit the inspection and cleansing of the interior surfaces and other interior components of any contaminants.
Abstract:
A device for mounting a UV bulb includes a housing having a hole therein, a fixed bracket and an adjustable bracket, the fixed bracket is connected to the housing and the adjustable bracket is rotatably mounted to the side bracket, the adjustable bracket also has means for mounting a UV bulb such that when said UV bulb is mounted to the adjustable bracket, the bulb can be inserted through the hole in the housing and rotated through an arc of approximately 90 degrees.
Abstract:
An object of the present invention is to provide an air-conditioning duct unit capable of being made compact when transported to largely reduce the cost of transport inside and outside a building as well as the cost of transportation by a truck. A duct unit A of the present invention has upper and lower wall portions 1 and 3 and right and left wall portions 2 and 4 formed of metal sheets, and spin locks curved into a curled shape, the spin locks being provided on the wall portions 1 to 4 at two side edges of the same along the longitudinal direction. One of the pair of spin locks provided on each adjacent pair of the wall portions is inserted in the other to form one of lock joints 9-1 to 9-4 rotatably. The wall portions 1 to 4 are linked so that the duct unit A can be changed in shape. Consequently, the duct unit can be folded so as to be flattened.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for reinforcing duct work is provided. In one embodiment, a reinforcement comprises a conduit having a first end and a second end. A pair of plugs is insertable into the first and second ends of the conduit. Each of the plugs has a groove extending along the circumference of the plug, and the plugs are crimped inside the conduit along the grooves. Each of the plugs may have a threaded end extending out of the plug and being retractable into said plug. Alternatively, each of the plugs may have an internally threaded opening extending at least partially through the plug. In this embodiment, the conduit can be secured to duct work by aligning the conduit with holes in the duct work, and inserting a bolt through the holes and into the internally threaded openings of the plugs.
Abstract:
A duct cover for installation on a duct having a known sectional area defined by the duct exterior margin, includes a cover envelop having a body, the body having an open end and an opposed closed end with a center portion extending between the open end and the closed end to define an envelop enclosure, the body being substantially impermeable relative to airborne particulate and moisture, and an elastic member being operably coupled to the body open end and having a relaxed disposition and an expanded disposition, the expanded disposition defining an opening that is area that is greater than the duct sectional area, the elastic member being contractable from the expanded disposition to a duct conforming disposition in compressive sealing engagement with the duct exterior margin. A method of installing a duct cover on a duct is further included.
Abstract:
A duct reinforcing rod and fabrication apparatus for use with a conduit and a threaded element dimensioned to fit within the conduit includes a positioning device to position the conduit at an insertion position and an insertion device for inserting the threaded element a predetermined distance into the conduit. A deformation device is also employed to deform the conduit such that the deformation occurs at two locations on the conduit, the two locations being longitudinally spaced from one another along a length of the conduit.
Abstract:
A support frame is used to hold the position of a vertically-disposed air duct within a wall between wall studs. The support frame defines an opening that receives the air duct. The support frame has a flange extending around the opening that engages the air duct. The support frame may include notched ends that receive the opposed wall studs to position the support frame with respect to the duct opening formed in the floor boards.
