Abstract:
An improved DPD system includes a predistortion module having at least one predistortion function. The predistortion module is configured to receive and subsequently process a baseband signal. The system also includes a power amplifier configured to receive the processed baseband signal from the predistortion module. The system further includes a model calculator configured to program priorities for predistortion functions so that the processed baseband signal transmitted from the predistortion module corresponds to the transmission power of the power amplifier. The model calculator is further configured to send a trigger signal to indicate when data capture from the power amplifier should begin so as to update the predistortion functions. A trigger module in the system is configured to receive the trigger signal and to initiate data capture from the power amplifier upon receipt of the trigger signal.

Abstract:
A device and method of predistortion linearization that account for both EVM and spectral mask are disclosed. The device and method are based on transforming the predistorter optimization problem from the time domain to the frequency domain, and weighting the equations according to one or more desired objectives. One objective focuses on abiding by the spectral mask, whereas another objective focuses on improving the EVM.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus are disclosed for compressing and decompressing data to reduce bandwidth requirements in transmissions of predistorted signals between a processing node and a remote transmitting node of a power amplifier with digital predistortion (PA-DPD) system. In the processing node, predistorted signals are decomposed into a high-dynamic range signal of a first sample rate and a low-dynamic range signal of a second sample rate greater than the first sample rate. Samples of both signals are combined to generate a compressed signal for transmission to the remote transmitting node, which decompresses the compressed signal to restore the predistorted signal.
Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed for compensating for non-linearity of a power amplifier using space mapping based predistortion. In one embodiment, a transmitter includes a power amplifier that amplifies a power amplifier input signal, a predistorter that effects predistortion of the power amplifier input signal to compensate for a non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier using a space mapping based model of an inverse of the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier, and an adaptation sub-system that adaptively configures the space mapping based model of the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier. In one embodiment, the adaptation sub-system adaptively configures a space mapping based model of the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier and adaptively configures the space mapping based model of the inverse of the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier based on the space mapping based model of the non-linear characteristic of the power amplifier.
Abstract:
An exemplary system comprises a linearizer, a power amplifier, and a feedback block. The linearizer may be configured to use a predistortion control signal to add predistortion to a receive signal to generate a predistorted signal. The power amplifier may be configured to amplify power of the predistorted signal to generate a first amplified signal. The power amplifier may also add high side and low side amplifier distortion to the predistorted signal. The high side and low side amplifier distortion may cancel at least a portion of the predistortion. The feedback block may be configured to capture a feedback signal based on a previous amplified signal from the power amplifier, to determine high side and low side distortion of the captured feedback signal, and to generate the predistortion control signal based on the determined high side and low side distortion.
Abstract:
A RF-digital hybrid mode power amplifier system for achieving high efficiency and high linearity in wideband communication systems is disclosed. The present invention is based on the method of adaptive digital predistortion to linearize a power amplifier in the RF domain. The present disclosure enables a power amplifier system to be field reconfigurable and support multi-modulation schemes (modulation agnostic), multi-carriers and multi-channels. As a result, the digital hybrid mode power amplifier system is particularly suitable for wireless transmission systems, such as base-stations, repeaters, and indoor signal coverage systems, where baseband I-Q signal information is not readily available.

Apparatus for amplifying an input signal having an input signal power includes a power amplifier, which is adapted to amplify an intermediate signal so as to generate an output signal, and which is characterized by a non-linearity. A non-linear filter is coupled to decompose the input signal into a series of input signal components, each such component proportional to a product of the input signal by a respective integer power of the input signal power, and is adapted to filter the signal components responsively to the non-linearity so as to generate the intermediate signal for input to the power amplifier.
Abstract:
In an amplifier system having two or more different amplifier sub-systems, the input signal to at least one of the amplifier sub-systems is pre-distorted based on the combined output signal from the two or more amplifier sub-systems. In one embodiment, each other amplifier sub-system pre-distorts its input signal based on only its own output signal. In one operational scenario, during initial operations, each amplifier sub-system separately pre-distorts its input signal based on only its own output signal. After pre-distortion has settled, one of the amplifier sub-systems is switched to pre-distort its input signal based on the combined output signal, while the other amplifier sub-systems continue to pre-distort their input single based on only their own output signals.
