Abstract:
To shorten the time required to transfer image data from a first information processing apparatus (e.g., an electronic camera) to a second information processing apparatus (e.g., a personal computer) the first information processing apparatus reduces the image data when it is determined that a slow interface is being used. Additionally, the reduced image data being transferred can be altered in size (enlarged or further reduced) prior to compression so that its size is best suited for the particular compression process.
Abstract:
A photographic film scanner has a line integration light sensor and a programmed controller which employs a plurality of lookup tables (LUT) sequenced by a common timer to control the timing of data collection and transfer to an asynchronously operating host computer. Delays in the transfer of image data to the host computer which exceed the light sensor line integration time can cause the integrated pixel scan information to become corrupted. Data corruption caused by delays in excess of line integration time is avoided by disabling the light sources and the related image scan operations until it is determined that prior line data transfer to the host is completed whereupon the accumulated data is collected and transferred to the host computer and normal scan operations are re-initiated. Even with the LEDs disabled, excessive build-up of dark current in the light sensors can corrupt the accumulated image information in the light sensor. This corruption is prevented by detecting the excessively long delay, flushing the corrupted data out of the light sensor and re-scanning the image line to develop a fresh line of image data for transfer to the host computer.
Abstract:
An image sensing device that provides image data to an external device adjusts the resolution at which the image is sensed in accordance with format requirements of the external device. The format requirements of the external device can be automatically detected, or entered by a user. The operating parameters of a line sensor, to scan the image in a subscanning direction, are varied in accordance with the format requirements. These operating parameters can be the integration cycle of the sensor, and/or the speed at which the image is optically scanned past the sensor.
Abstract:
A communication apparatus which is connected to an ISDN includes a data input/output (I/O) unit for inputting/outputting data and an ISDN interface to control the data input/output operations between the data I/O unit and the ISDN. The ISDN interface is constructed on a one-chip IC and at least includes an interface for separating B-channel data and D-channel data and for inputting/outputting the data, a switch for switching data paths in accordance with the classification of the information of the B-channel data and a modem which is connected to the path for 3.1K audio in the path of the B-channel data. The ISDN interface further has a speed matching processing circuit for matching the speed of the data which is inputted/outputted to/from the data I/O unit with the speed of 64k non-limit digital data. A commercial power source is supervised and the occurrence of a power failure is detected by a detecting unit. In case of a power failure, a power supply mode is switched from a commercial power source to a power supply from the line and the power source is supplied to the ISDN I/F unit and the one-chip microcomputer.
Abstract:
A system and method for extending the time period at which a response signal can be received before a time-out occurs without altering the length of the time-out period defined in any transmission protocol, ensuring that the two faxes communicate using one of a predefined, e.g., standard, set of transmission protocols, and/or ensuring that the two faxes communicate using one of a predefined set of signal modulation techniques. The present invention receives signals transmitted from a local fax and transmits these signals to a remote fax. Similarly, the present invention receives signals transmitted from the remote fax and transmits these signals to the local fax. The present invention examines the contents of the signals and can modify the signal transmitted to the local fax in order to ensure that the two faxes communicate using a transmission protocol that is supported by the present invention and to ensure that the two faxes communicate using a signal modulation technique that is supported by the present invention.
Abstract:
Embodiments of a fax system with adaptive protocol selection, and methods for such a system, are disclosed herein. Embodiments of a fax system may be adapted to selectively configure the protocol (both the type of protocol or aspects of a particular protocol) used in association with the transmission or reception of a specific fax. The configuration of the protocol utilized can be based on one or more attributes associated with a sender or a destination. The fax can then be transmitted or received according to those configuration parameters.

Abstract:
Provided is a data setting system that has an image forming apparatus provided with an image reading part, and the communication terminal apparatus provided with a light irradiating part. The image forming apparatus is provided with an optical-communication receive part and an optical-communication execution part. The optical-communication receive part receives an external light signal by using an image reading part. The optical-communication execution part performs a setup of the data corresponding to the received light signal. The communication terminal apparatus is provided with an optical-communication sending part. The optical-communication sending part sends the light signal corresponding to a setup of data using a light irradiating part.
Abstract:
Devices, systems and methods are disclosed which relate to incorporating a fax machine function into a mobile device. A camera on the mobile device is used to scan or capture an image of an existing document. Logic on the mobile device converts the image into a fax transmittal that can be transmitted to a fax machine. Once the fax transmittal is ready, a connection is initiated with a traditional fax machine across one or more networks, and the fax transmittal is sent to the fax machine at a speed determined by the slower device. Upon a successful transmission, the connection is terminated, and a report is generated.
