Abstract: This disclosure details the implementation of a user interface for a portable, image-processing transmitter. The Transmitter's user interface comprises a compact and efficient forum for managing, manipulating, storing, and transmitting digital images of various formats across a wide array of transmission means and protocols. Embodiments of the Transmitter may be employed by photographers, photojournalists, and/or the like to rapidly process, edit, and send high-quality photographs or video to multiple news agencies, newspapers, magazines, television studios, websites, and/or the like while maintaining control over their photographs by allowing them to send reduced quality and watermarked proofs. The Transmitter may be configured via the user interface to allow users seeking to transmit large, high-resolution images to first generate and transmit low-resolution preview images, thereby saving on transmission time and resources. Full resolution versions of the images may then be transmitted as approvals of the preview versions are received.

Abstract: A personal media player (PMP) uses a digital media processing system—comprising a video rendering subsystem, a music rendering subsystem, and a picture rendering subsystem—to produce moving-video (video), audio (music), still-graphics (picture), and other output rendered from media files ported to the PMP from another source. The PMP further comprises a user interface system, a display unit system, a power source system, and a data port system utilizing Universal Plug and Play functionality, all of which are coupled directly or indirectly to the digital media processing system. The physical components constituting the aforementioned systems and subsystems are then encased in a portable housing unit suitable for hand-held use and ready portability.

Abstract: A fax to E-mail system and related method are shown, whereby a hardcopy document is sent via a fax device to its recipient via electronic mail through a data network (such as the Internet), and is delivered in such a manner that it can be retrieved by the recipient at an E-mail device, in the ordinary course of retrieving the E-mail, and displayed on the screen of the E-mail device. The invention provides for and accomplishes the delivery of a document, which begins as a hardcopy, as an electronic file retrieved through E-mail recipient's terminal and displayed on the computer screen of the E-mail recipient's terminal. The system and method also provides for an interface device which connects to a conventional fax device for communicating E-mail addresses and routing hardcopy documents to the E-mail network. The invention provides a means for embedding the functions of the interface device into conventional fax devices. The system can also be used in cooperation with Internet Web service for reporting, accounting, information services, and user interaction.

Abstract: A architecture for a multifunction peripheral to service a plurality of clients simultaneously. A shared memory receives data from the plurality of clients. A channel multiplexer selects data to be routed to a peripheral, a SCSI emulator is used to logically select the peripheral. The data is then forwarded from the multiplexer via the SCSI emulator to a PCI bus, the PCI bus being physically connected with the peripheral's engine. When data needs to be sent from a peripheral to a client, it is forwarded from the PCI bridge to the SCSI emulator and routed via a demultiplexer to the shared memory wherein it is retrieved by the appropriate client. The multifunction peripheral can be interrupted while performing a first task using a first peripheral, switch to a second task needing a second peripheral, and return to the first task when completed.
