摘要: A short stroke shift lever device that is capable of shifting gears within a small space by a ratchet-like mechanism. When a pivotally mounted shift lever is moved from an intermediate portion of a shift groove to a front end or rear end of the shift groove with a pin of a ball shaft coming into a hole of a control plate, the ball shaft rotates via the joint toward the front side or rear side and the control plate rotates around the shaft; subsequently, a protrusion comes into a groove adjacent to the groove into which the protrusion had come until then, and the shift position of an automatic transmission is changed one step. By repeating a pivotal movement of the shift lever, the gear of the automatic transmission may be changed to any position. The device reduces the amount of space required for installation of the shift lever.

摘要: An instrument panel brace for aiding in the alignment of the steering column of a vehicle during a collision. The brace is attached to the instrument panel beam which in turn is attached to the steering column. Further, the instrument panel brace lies adjacent the cowl rather than being rigidly attached to either the cowl or dash panel. During a collision, the brace resists rotation of the steering column caused when the driver's knees push up against the instrument panel beam while resisting transferring load from the engine to the steering column.

摘要: An operation apparatus for a vehicle automatic transmission mechanism includes an actuator for driving a hydraulic valve for switching a travel range of an automatic transmission mechanism, a control unit for controlling the actuator, and a transmission operation unit for outputting a range switching instruction to the control unit. In the preferred embodiment, the transmission operation unit includes a stroke contact type operation switch suitably mounted on a side surface of a steering column so that at least forward vehicle travel ranges can be switched by only a stretched finger of the hand of a vehicle driver who continues to maintain his grip on the steering wheel with the same hand. The operation switch can include either a rotary switch or slide switch mounted on the steering column. As an alternative embodiment, the operation switch can be an operation lever swingably arranged on the vehicle instrument panel opposing the steering wheel, but which can be operated so that at least the forward vehicle travel ranges can be switched by only a stretched finger of the vehicle driver's hand while the driver continues to maintain his grip on the wheel with the same hand.

摘要: Method and device for signaling to a vehicle operator that a higher gear should be selected. A microprocessor is connected so that it can sense the rotational speed of the engine and the vehicle road speed. The quotient of the road speed and the engine speed is determined and is compared with a series of predetermined quotients, one for each of the gear selector positions, and the engaged gear is thus determined. For each gear there is registered the quotient of its own gear ratio and that of the next higher gear position, the quotient being zero for the highest gear. The engine speed signal is multiplied by this gear ratio value for the gear engaged and is compared with a maximum value, and if the result exceeds the maximum value, a signal is sent to indicate that a gear change should be made. In accordance with a preferred embodiment, the fact is utilized that the generator, if the generator belt slips, will produce an engine speed value which is too low, so that the first mentioned measured quotient will not agree with the predetermined quotient. An error indication is then sent indicating the need for service.

摘要: A control head assembly which automatically locks a control lever into one of two or more selected positions, thus reducing chances of accidental disengagement. The lever is relatively stiff and is rotatable between at least two selected positions and is also movable along hinge axis. Stops carried on control head mounting and on lever permit rotation of the lever between the two positions when the stops are disengaged and prevent rotation when the stops are engaged. A spring cooperates with the lever and mounting to permit axial movement for engagement and disengagement and to hold in engagement when lever is in one of the selected positions. The stop on the lever has a particular shape which can be accepted in at least two orientations relative to the stop on the mounting.

摘要: An arrangement for indicator meters for automobiles, in which a speed meter and a tachometer are coaxially arranged in a front-and-back positional relationship in the lengthwise direction of the vehicle body so that they may be more readily observed with the least movement of eyes as well as from one and same direction. Also disclosed is an arrangement for the warning indicator devices, in which such warning indicators as turning directions, operating conditions of brakes, dynamo, and so forth are arranged in vacant space around dial plates for the speed meter and tachometer, and such warning indicator devices are accommodated in a cavity formed on the top raised portion of a steering handle column cover. Further, disclosed is an arrangement of a lamp to illuminate the dial plates and the indicator needles of the speed meter and the tachometer, in which the illuminating lamp is fixedly provided at a position in front of the dial plates so as to directly illuminate the dial plates and the indicator needles, and the lamp thus fitted is covered with the top raised portion of the steering handle column cover.

摘要: A control unit for an automatic transmission of a vehicle is provided. The vehicle includes a gear selection operating element which allows a user of the vehicle to set different drive positions of the transmission, but not individual gears, by actuating the gear selection operating element. The control unit is configured to determine that a drive position “L” has been set using the gear selection operating element, and in response thereto, the control unit is also configured to provide a graphical user interface on a screen of the vehicle. The user interface allows a manual gear shift of the transmission.
