    摘要: An installation for and a method for driving a submarine pipeline scraper, wherein one of the ends of the pipeline has a launch device and the other end has a receiving device. The scraper defines an upstream chamber and a downstream chamber. It can be launched inside the pipeline from the launch device in the direction of the receiving device, allowing water to enter through the launch device in order to subject the upstream chamber to hydrostatic pressure. The receiving device is identical to the launch device, such that water can enter through the receiving device in order to balance the pressure of the two chambers, and also enables a fluid to be injected into the downstream chamber to drive the scraper toward the launch device.

The vehicle includes a train of modules interlinked by suspension units to allow serpentine movement through pipe bends. The vehicle train has its own internal power supply and drive mechanism in the modules. A detector module determines the presence of a service junction using magnetic field information. A manipulative module allows the vehicle to be temporarily wedged in the pipeline while providing rotational movement to facilitate the desired operation at the junction. This may include drilling and welding of a service pipe to the main using appropriate modules. A remote probe typically containing a magnetic field generator can be used to assist in service junction location by the vehicle.

    摘要: A sensor for use in installing a plastic service pipe inside a steel service pipe connected to a main includes a flexible element which is fed through the steel pipe and through the plastic pipe. The element has at its remote end two light-emitting diodes and two photoconductive cells. The flexible element and the pipe are fed together into the steel pipe. The sensor indicates when the cells have entered the main because the intensity of the light reflected to the cells falls to a low value and gives an audible or visual signal. This also indicates that the end of the plastic pipe which carries a seal is positioned correctly and that sealant can be injected into the space between the steel pipe and the plastic pipe. After the sealant has set the sensor can be recovered by withdrawal through the noise-piece and through the pipe.

    摘要: An in-pipe running robot includes a vehicle body movable inside piping along a piping axis, and a pair of running devices disposed in front and rear positions of the vehicle body. Each of the running devices has a pair of wheels secured to opposite ends of an axle. The wheels are steerable as a unit about a vertical axis of the vehicle body, and have a center of steering thereof extending linearly in a fore and aft direction of the vehicle body. When the robot is caused to run in a circumferential direction inside the piping, the vehicle body is set to a posture having the fore and aft direction inclined with respect to the piping axis, with the running devices set to a posture for running in the circumferential direction. Then, the running devices are driven to cause the vehicle body to run stably in the circumferential direction of the piping.
