摘要: Provided is a frangible munitions device optimized for a dome and cylinder that yields fragments having shapes corresponding to a predetermined embossment pattern upon explosive rupture. The embossment pattern includes a first set of inner regular hexagonal embossments formed into the dome and cylinder that are aligned with the axis of the cylinder, and a second set of outer pre-deformed hexagonal shapes that distort to produce regular hexagonal shapes after drawing into the cylinder wall. The second set of shapes are separated by sharp transition regions. The shapes are embossed in a repeated pattern around the hollow cylinder and the dome top. The dome yields a plurality of fragments having shapes corresponding to the first set of inner regular hexagonal embossments upon explosive rupture, while the cylinder yields a plurality of fragments having shapes corresponding to the second set of outer pre-deformed hexagonal embossments upon explosive rupture.

摘要: A projectile launching system can include a projectile launcher and a projectile. The projectile launcher can include at least one barrel, a projectile, a firing pin mechanism, an activator, and a power system. The barrel can extend along a longitudinal axis between first and second ends, with an exit port at the second end. The projectile can be positioned in the barrel and include primer, propellant, and a sub-projectile. The firing pin mechanism can be selectively project into the barrel to engage the primer, whereby the propellant is ignited and the projectile is launched out of the barrel. The activator can be engaged with the firing pin mechanism and engageable by a user to control the firing pin mechanism. The power system can rotate the barrel or the projectile as the firing pin mechanism is projecting into the barrel and engaging the primer of the projectile.

摘要: Embodiments disclosed herein provide an Explosive Device Simulator (EDS). Embodiments of the Explosive Device Simulator may include two or more chemical components that are non-explosive when separated from each other within the EDS, but which form an explosive mixture or substance when combined. Because the individual chemical components are non-explosive, the Explosive Device Simulator may be stored, transported and handled safely for long periods of time and without increased security, protective measures, or special training. Further, the chemical components may be chosen such that the Explosive Device Simulator creates a realistic explosion (e.g. loud and bright), but which produces minimal concussive forces and is therefore safer to use as a training aid.

摘要: A projectile comprising a central slug axially circumscribed by a segmented cylindrical sleeve having a plurality of fragmenting segments and a base that opens into an interior cavity. A flange may circumscribe the base. A wad may fill the interior cavity, remaining attached to the central slug. The wad travels with projectile to set a geometric center behind the center of gravity of the projectile. A radially-segmented cylindrical sleeve receives the central slug. The cylindrical sleeve comprises inwardly sloping segments for funneling target material into the recess between the slug and cylindrical sleeve. The segments bend outwardly upon impact and are adapted to bend, compress or flex inwardly to pass through a muzzle choke.

Upon explosion, the contour of this groove (11) results in a focussing effect on the wall material due to the oblique angle at which the expanding cylindrical detonation wave front impacts upon its inner wall. This produces the forging of a rough rod-like projectile (111) which, being coherent, maintains its velocity and consequently travels much further than the randomly shaped projectiles (101).

摘要: Apparatus and methods associated with an enclosure or structure including two sections that are adapted with a snap-fit interlocking structure. Various embodiments of the enclosure or structures are formed with various case hardening or embrittlement processes to increase embrittlement or hardness of the enclosure or structure so as to create a structure or enclosure which has a desired fragmentation capacity while still maintaining sufficient material properties to permit snap-fit insertion of one section into another section and withstand substantial impacts. Embodiments also provide an interlocking structure that minimizes differences in fragmentation or fracturing capacity as contrasted with other portions of the structure or enclosure. An embodiment of the invention includes an enclosure where one section of the enclosure or structure has a first thickness and the second section has a second thickness, wherein the first and second thicknesses are different. In some embodiments, one section is thinner than another section.

The drive band may have forward edge defining a step. The bullet of the present invention may also be received in the case mouth of a rimless case and be partially protruding therefrom.

摘要: An explosive device, such as a munition or a part of a munition, has an explosive material surrounded by a casing that has one or more voids within the casing. The one or more voids define sizes and shapes of the fragments that the casing breaks into when the explosive material is detonated. The casing may be made using an additive manufacturing process, with the one or more voids fully between an inner surface of the casing and an outer surface of the casing. The voids may substantially define the size and shape of fragments making up a majority of the volume of the casing, such as 75% or more of the volume of the casing. The voids may change direction within the casing, for example branching and intersecting to define a plurality of rectangular (parallelepiped) or other shaped fragments.
