Abstract:
A wind energy system 10 comprises a wind tunnel module 12 having openings 14a and 14b at opposite ends. The openings have substantially the same cross-sectional area although the cross-sectional area of the wind tunnel module 12 decreases from the openings 14a and 14b in a direction toward an intermediate portion 16 of the tunnel module. The intermediate portion 16 has a substantially constant cross-sectional area. One or more wind turbines with equal or different number of blades may be mounted in the wind tunnel in or adjacent to the intermediate portion 16. The intermediate portion 16 is bendable to enable the module 12 to conform to a roof 20 of any pitch.
Abstract:
A power source module is assembled on a main printed circuit board. The power source module comprises an input processing circuit, a PFC/PWM control circuit, a conversion circuit, and an output processing circuit. The input processing circuit is for rectifying an alternating current voltage to be a primary direct current voltage. The PFC/PWM control circuit is for modulating the primary direct current voltage. The PFC/PWM control circuit is assembled on a subsidiary printed circuit board electrically connected to the main printed circuit board. The conversion circuit is for converting the primary direct current voltage to be a secondary direct current voltage. The output processing circuit is for rectifying and filtering the secondary direct current voltage.
Abstract:
To communicate information relating to an application over a wireless link, application control information and application data information are communicated over the wireless link between a mobile station and a base station system. The application data information is communicated over a traffic flow over the wireless link, and the application control information is communicated in a wireless control message carried in wireless signaling associated with the traffic flow.
Abstract:
A method for downloading and displaying a video program using a mobile terminal that includes a first radio access network having a first data transfer rate and a second radio access network having a second data transfer rate faster than the first data transfer rate. The downloaded video program is displayed at a predetermined playback rate. Excess portions of the downloaded video program that result when a rate at which the video program is downloaded exceeds the predetermined playback rate are buffered. A third data transfer rate that is lower than the first transfer rate is calculated in response to the predetermined playback rate, the buffered excess portions and the time duration of the remainder of the video program. The third data transfer rate is negotiated with the first network for downloading the video program when the difference between the first and third data transfer rates exceeds a threshold level.
Abstract:
A method for concentrating or partly separating particles of a selected species from a liquid or fluid containing these particles and flowing in a channel, and for determining if the selected species particle is present in the liquid or fluid. A time varying electrical field E, having a root-mean-square intensity E2rms with a non-zero gradient in a direction transverse to the liquid or fluid flow direction, is produced by a nanostructure electrode array, with a very high magnitude gradient near exposed electrode tips. A dielectrophoresis force causes the selected particles to accumulate near the electrode tips, if the medium and selected particles have substantially different dielectric constants. An insulating material surrounds most of each of the nanostructure electrodes, and a region of the insulating material surface is functionalized to promote attachment of the selected species particles to the surface. An electrical property value Z(meas) is measured at the functionalized surface and is compared with a reference value Z(ref) to determine if the selected species particles are attached to the functionalized surface.

A fuel cell includes a porous frit based composite proton exchange membrane. The pores of the porous frit are tilled with a proton-conducting material.
Abstract:
In a hybrid peer-to-peer file sharing network including a receiver peer and a provider peer, the receiver sends the provider a ticket [710] obtained from a server authorizing the receiver to obtain a data object O. The receiver obtains a root value of a hash tree for the object, verifies its digital signature, and sends the provider peer a request for a block of data object O and a request for a corresponding set of hash tree of hash values from the hash tree [714]. The receiver receives from the provider peer the block of O and the corresponding set of hash values of the hash tree [716] that do not contain any hash value in the local hash tree. The receiver sends the provider an acknowledgement of receipt [718], obtains a block key from the provider [720], decrypts the block, verifies the integrity of the block using the subset of hash values and the local hash tree for O, and updates the local hash tree by adding the subset of hash values to the local hash tree, as well as any newly calculated hash values [722]. The provider may submit to a server the acknowledgements as proof of its service to the receiver.
Abstract:
A system and method for downloading content in a peer-to-peer network are described including receiving, by a first peer, a list of content available in the peer-to-peer network, requesting, by the first peer, content availability information for a unit of content and receiving, by the first peer, content availability information. A system and method for downloading content in a peer-to-peer network are also described including forwarding, content availability information in response to a request for the content availability information, wherein the content availability information includes a location of a unit of content and a status of each peer in the peer-to-peer network having the unit of content available and receiving a reservation to schedule a download of the unit of content. The system and method also include the ability to allow delayed downloading of the in accordance with a reservation for said content.
Abstract:
An electronic apparatus such as an audio apparatus, television signal receiver, or other apparatus provides an equalizer interface that enables equalizer settings to be adjusted via acoustic user feedback. According to an exemplary embodiment, the electronic apparatus includes a sound generator for generating a first tone for a first frequency band. A processor enables a user to adjust a first volume level of the first tone. A memory stores the first volume level for the first frequency band. A volume controller applies the first volume level to output signals in the first frequency band.
