Abstract: A vehicle body structure with a cargo area structure, a retractable step and a handle assembly. The cargo area structure has a floor, a first side wall and a tailgate at least partially defining a cargo area. The handle assembly has a base and a grip handle. The base is attached to an upright surface of the first side wall. The grip handle is movable relative to the base between a stowed orientation in which the grip handle is at a location lower than an upper surface of the first side wall and a gripping orientation in which at least a portion of the grip handle extends higher that the upper surface of the first side wall. With the grip handle in the gripping orientation an individual using the step to enter the cargo area grabs the grip handle for assistance in stepping up into the cargo area.

Abstract: A vehicle trunk lid assembly includes an inner trunk panel, an upper outer trunk panel and a lower outer trunk panel. The inner trunk panel has a generally horizontal portion and an upright portion. The upright portion extends downward from the horizontal portion with the trunk lid assembly in a closed orientation. The upper outer trunk panel has a main section that extends horizontally and a contoured section that extends downwardly from a rearward area of the main section. The main section is attached to the horizontal portion of the inner trunk panel. The lower outer trunk panel is attached to at least a lower section of the upright portion of the inner trunk panel, a lower edge of the upper outer trunk panel and a lower edge of the inner truck panel.

Operating the controller includes controlling the autonomous vehicle to traverse a current portion of the vehicle transportation network in accordance with the active handler, receiving an indicator output by the active handler, generating an updated belief state based on the indicator, and controlling the autonomous vehicle to traverse a subsequent portion of the vehicle transportation network based on the updated belief state.

Abstract: A vehicle dynamic control monitoring system includes a vehicle, a warning indicator, at least one vehicle dynamic control system (VDC), a tire pressure sensor and an electronic controller. The vehicle has a plurality of wheels rotatably mounted to the vehicle. The warning indicator is installed to the vehicle at a location visible to a vehicle operator. The at least one VDC and the tire pressure sensor are installed to the vehicle. The electronic controller is connected to the warning indicator, the at least one VDC and the tire pressure sensor. The electronic controller is configured such that in response to determining that at least one of the wheels has a tire pressure that is below a predetermined tire pressure range, the warning indicator is displayed indicating that the at least one VDC will operate with reduced effectiveness.

The disclosed technology determines a data transfer rate of at least one signal received from a vehicle, the at least one signal including state/status data of the vehicle. In response to determining that the data transfer rate satisfies a data transfer rate criterion, a location of the vehicle and a location of at least one of a plurality of objects that obstruct the at least one signal is determined using the state data and external data associated with the vehicle. The disclosed technology generates optimized state data using the state data and the external data.

Abstract: A headlamp structure has a contoured reflector panel with a forward-facing surface and a reflex supporting portion. The forward-facing surface has a plurality of reflector surface portions. The reflex supporting portion extends forward from an inboard side inboard of the reflector surface portions. A passive reflector is attached to the reflex supporting portion with a reflector surface that faces an outboard direction relative to the forward-facing surface. Each of the plurality of reflector surface portions is shaped and configured to reflect light from a corresponding one of a plurality of light emitting elements and aim the reflected light to project in a forward direction parallel to the reflector surface of the passive reflector. The reflector surface of the passive reflector is configured such that at least light approaching the contoured reflector panel from outboard of an outboard side of the contoured reflector panel is reflected back in the outboard direction.

Abstract: A vehicle front-end assembly includes a vehicle frame and a skid plate. The vehicle frame has a first front side member and a second front side member. Each of the first and second front side members has a corresponding front-end portion with a downward facing surface. The skid plate has a main section, a first attachment flange extending from a first lateral side of the main section and a second attachment flange extending from a second lateral side of the main section. The first attachment flange is attached to the downward facing surface of the first front side member. The second attachment flange is attached to the downward facing surface of the second front side member such that the main section covers a forward area of an underside of the vehicle.

Abstract: A vehicle front-end assembly includes a vehicle frame, a first tow hook and a skid plate. The first tow hook has a forward portion and a rearward portion. The rearward portion of the first tow hook is attached a front-end portion of a first front side member of the vehicle frame by a mechanical fastener. The skid plate has a main section and a first attachment flange that extends from the main section. The first attachment flange is attached to the front-end portion of the first front side member by the mechanical fastener. The first attachment flange has a first alignment projecting surface. During installation of the skid plate to the first front side member, the first alignment projection contacts a surface of the rearward portion of the first tow hook moving the first tow hook into alignment with the first front side member.

Abstract: A method of making an electrode for a lithium ion battery includes providing a restricting media having a main body with opposing planar surfaces and depositing alloying particles on the opposing planar surfaces to form a restrained active particle layer. The restricting media can be a magnetic, electrochemically inactive material with an affinity for the alloying particles. The restricting media restrains expansion of the alloying particles during lithiation to a respective side of the restricting media. Electrodes include a current collector and an electrode material layer adjacent the current collector including the restricting media, the alloying particles deposited on the restricting media to form a restrained active particle layer, and a carbon material in contact with the alloying particles.
