    摘要: A video-scrambling system induces a random wobble i.e., time shifting, in the location of active portion of the video frame, without affecting the horizontal sync signal and colorburst in each video line, thus providing both security and concealment. The security is enhanced by filling in the gap between the nominal beginning of active video and the actual beginning of active video with a synthesized video signal which replicates the adjacent active video using a digitally generated filling pattern. Also, a random noise overlay further conceals the location of the gap. Additional concealment is provided by wiggling in time the location of the horizontal sync signal using one or two frequencies and also by randomly altering the location of the vertical sync signal. The NTSC digital encoding in accordance with the invention is simplified by using only two channels, chrominance and luminance, and by a heterodyne circuit for chrominance stability. NTSC encoding is enhanced by providing detail normally lost, by use of the chroma channel. Additionally, a non-standard video signal may be provided with a portion of the colorburst on the front porch of the horizontal blanking, thus allowing use of a relatively simple decoder.

    摘要: A method and apparatus are described for preventing a dual deck video recorder from being used to record a copy-protected video signal. A switch is included on the recorder to indicate whether a video signal input to one of the deck locations for recording originates externally of the machine or internally at another deck location. Recording is prevented whenever the switch indicates that the video signal originates from the other deck location if the video signal at such location includes a selected copy-protect signal. If a video signal to be recorded comes from externally of the machine, copying of the same is prevented if (1) the video signal includes the copy-protect signal; or (2) the video signal to be copied is the same as the play back video signal and the latter has the selected copy-protect signal.

    摘要: Time sequential information signals, such as color video signals having a line timing reference and an active video portion, are encrypted by time shifting the active video signal portion towards and away from the line timing reference signal in psuedo-random fashion prior to broadcasting or recording on tape or disk and transmittal to the user. The signals are decrypted by an inverse time shifting technique. By limiting the amount of time shifting between lines, potential signal degradation for color video signals is minimized, and drop out compensation processing is minimally affected, so that the color resolution and picture quality are substantially unaffected.Various levels of security are attainable, ranging from a simple security technique in which the intra field time shifting information is encoded along with the active video to a relatively sophisticated, high security level in which the number of decryption signal processing attempts and the time period within which decryption processing is permitted are limited.

    摘要: A deflection coil driver includes a current driver stage comprising three power transistors, a first power transistor being caused to turn on via a class B transistor stage when an input signal of a first polarity is input to the class B stage, second and third power transistors being caused to turn on via said class B stage when the input signal has an opposite polarity. When turned on, the first power transistor couples current from a positive voltage source to the deflection coil, the second power transistor couples current from a negative voltage source to said coil, and the third power transistor couples said coil to ground. A transistor switch determines whether the second or the third power transistor is on, as a function of the voltage across the deflection coil. The current through the coil is also sensed and provides negative feedback to an input amplifier to ensure that the shape of such current matches the shape of the input signal.

    摘要: Precise, point-by-point correction of spatial and shading errors in a camera television picture are performed manually. The errors to be corrected are determined by visually examining a picture on a video monitor, by selecting an area for error correction which area corresponds to the type and extent of the specific error selected for correction. A position command increments or decrements an address by preselected steps to locate a movable "cursor" which, in turn, identifies the area being corrected. A correction command retrieves the data from the area identified, and which contains the error, selectively increments or decrements the data in preselected steps, and stores the new data back in memory. The process continues until the operator is satisfied with the correction results. Correction thus may be made point-by-point, along horizontal or vertical lines or areas, in selected corner areas, etc., of the picture.

    摘要: A beam control circuit which instantaneously increases beam current just sufficiently to discharge a highlight, utilizes the fact that a substantially linear relationship exists between the grid current and the available beam current of a diode-gun camera tube. A tube grid control circuit provides means for calibrating the relationship between the incoming signal current and the available beam current. A highlight enable circuit coupled to the grid control circuit is pre-biased whereby the beam current of the tube is maintained at a constant value as long as the video signal current remains within its normal operating range, i.e., there are no highlights in the viewed scene. However, when the video signal current increases above the pre-bias level, as in the presence of a highlight, the highlight enable circuit conducts to cause a corresponding increase in the beam current of the tube, wherein the beam current maintains a pre-calibrated, substantially constant margin above the video signal current which is just sufficient to discharge the highlight.

At the end of the predetermined time duration, the watermark is changed to a different scale preferably on a pseudo-random basis to ensure that each one of all the scales in a predetermined scaling range is achieved a predetermined number of times. Thereby the recorder shuts off a number of times during play of the content, each time the detector circuit senses the watermark.
