Abstract: A roller stand for a continuous billet casting machine, having a carrying frame for mounting at least one lower supporting roller and at least two lateral supporting rollers. The lateral supporting rollers are mounted elastically on the carrying frame by means of at least one passive elastic element, and have an amount of elasticity at least in a direction perpendicular to the axes of rotation of the lateral supporting rollers. A method for determining the position and/or the shape of a billet is provided. During passage through at least one roller stand, alterations in the position at least of the lateral supporting rollers relative to a reference are detected and, on the basis of this information, the shape of the billet and/or the position of the billet in relation to the center line of the billet-guide channel are/is determined.

Abstract: A control device (3b) for a roll stand (1). During rolling of a metal strip (2) in the roll stand (1), the device receives measurement data (M) for a lateral position (y) of the metal strip (2) on the inlet side and/or outlet side of the roll stand (1). Taking into account parameters (P) of the stand regulator (3a) on the basis of the deviation in the lateral position (y) from a target position (y*), a stand regulator (3a) of the control device (3b) determines a tilt value (δs) for the roll stand (1) and controls the roll stand (1) accordingly. The control device (3b) determines at least one variable (V1, V2, Q1, Q2) from which it is derived, for both strip edges (7, 8) of the metal strip (2), whether the metal strip (2) forms an undulation (9) in the region of the particular strip edge (7, 8). As soon as the metal strip (2) forms an undulation (9) in the region of one of the strip edges (7, 8), the control device (3b) varies at least one of the parameters (P) of the stand regulator (3a), such that the stand regulator (3a) determines the tilt value (δs), starting from the variation in the at least one parameter (P), and taking into account the changed parameter (P).

Abstract: A device for ascertaining the lateral strip contour and/or the position of the strip edges of a metal strip. It includes at least one sensing element for ascertaining suitable measurement data. The sensing element is integrated into a lateral guide (17) together with a main part module of the metal strip conveying device. The lateral guide (17) includes at least one wear element (15a, 15b, 15c) which is arranged in the lateral guide and which comprises a wear element adjusting device that can be rotated about a rotational axis (20) substantially perpendicular to a guide plane of the lateral guide (17). The wear element (15a, 15b, 15c) together with the wear element adjusting device is designed as a sensing element. In an operating method, at least one sensing element (15a, 15b, 15c) is brought into contact with a lateral edge at a starting time, and suitable measurement data is ascertained using the sensing element while the metal strip runs past the sensing element. The strip course can be corrected on the basis of the ascertained measurement data using corrective measures on one or more roll stands and/or on one or more lateral guides (17) of the rolling mill.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for producing carburized directly reduced iron sponge from iron oxide material. Firstly, direct reduction is carried out by means of a reduction gas consisting at least predominantly of H2 and the carbon content in the iron sponge is then increased by means of a carburizing gas which is fed in, after which used carburizing gas is at least partly taken off while largely avoiding mixing with the reduction gas. The plant for producing carburized directly reduced iron sponge from iron oxide material comprises a reduction zone for directly reducing introduced iron oxide material to directly reduced product by means of reduction gas consisting predominantly of H2 and a reduction gas feed conduit opening into the reduction zone. It also comprises a carburization zone having a carburizing gas feed conduit opening into the carburization zone and a carburization offgas conduit.

Abstract: To cool a metal strip (1), liquid coolant (5) is supplied to the strip by a supply device (9) from a feed line (10). A valve (13) in the feed line (10) sets the valve (13) to a respective opening position (s) for adjusting the coolant flow (F) to the metal strip (1) per unit of time. An upstream condition detection device (14) upstream of the valve device (13) in the feed line (10) detects an upstream condition (ZV) of the coolant (5). A control unit (6) determines a set point (s*) for an opening position (s) of the valve device (13) corresponding to the set point (F*) for the coolant flow (F) based on a set point (F*) for the coolant flow (F*), the upstream condition (ZV) of the coolant (5) and a valve characteristic (C) of the valve device (13). The valve characteristic (C) follows a characteristic curve (K) of the coolant flow (F) as a function of the opening position (s) of the valve device (13), relative to a reference condition (ZR) of the coolant (5) upstream of the valve device (13) in the feed line (10). The control unit (6) sets the opening position (s) of the valve device (13) according to the set point (s*) that has been determined.
