摘要: The invention relates to a control method and a controller for a DC-DC converter, such as a synchronous Buck converter, which exploits the principle of capacitor charge balance to allow the converter to recover from a positive and/or negative load current step in the shortest achievable time, with the lowest possible voltage undershoot/overshoot. The control method may be implemented by either an analog or a digital circuit. The controller may be integrated with existing controller schemes (such as voltage-mode controllers) to provide superior dynamic performance during large-signal transient conditions while providing stable operation during steady state conditions. The invention also relates to a method and a modification of a DC-DC converter topology that comprises connecting a controlled current source between an input terminal and an output terminal of the DC-DC converter; detecting a load current step to a new load current; modifying a duty cycle of the DC-DC converter; and modifying current through a parallel output capacitor of the DC-DC converter by controlling current of the current source. The methods and circuits provided herein are applicable to Buck converters and Buck-derived converters such as forward, push-pull, half-bridge, and full-bridge converters.

摘要: non-isolated full bridge (FB) converters have self-driven synchronous rectifier (SR) MOSFETs in the current doubler rectifier (CDR). The gate terminals of the SR MOSFETs are connected to the bridge leg midpoints of the FB converter. The primary side of the FB converter shares the same ground of the secondary side, which provides the gate drive path for the SRs. The asymmetrical control featuring zero-voltage-switching (ZVS) capability is applied to the two bridge legs of the FB converter respectively. This creates the right gate drive voltage waveforms for the SRs. The energy of the leakage inductance of the transformer is used to achieve SR gate energy recovery. High gate drive voltages can be used to reduce the on-resistance of SRs and the conduction loss. In this way, no additional gate driver circuitry is needed for the SRs compared to the conventional external drive circuitry for SRs. In this invention, the above features provide high conversion efficiency with high switching frequency. This can help to achieve high power density and fast dynamic response accordingly. The invented power circuits are suitable to low voltage and high current application.

摘要: A resonate gate drive circuit for driving at least one power switching device recovers energy loss for charging and discharging the gate capacitance of the power switching devices. The gate drive circuit uses a current source to charge and discharge the gate capacitance with a high current, reducing the switching loss of the power switching device. The gate drive circuit comprises four semiconductor bidirectional conducting switching devices connected in a full-bridge configuration. An inductor connected across the bridge configuration provides the current source. The gate drive circuit may be used in single and dual high-side and low-side, symmetrical or complementary, power converter gate drive applications.

摘要: This invention relates to a resonant gate drive circuit for a power switching device, such as a MOSFET, that uses a center-tapped transformer to increase the driving gate voltage approximately twice as high as the supply voltage. The gate capacitance of the power switching device is charged and discharged by a constant current source, which increases the switching transition speed of the power switch. The circuit is suitable for driving a pair of low side switches with 50% duty cycle or less, such as in a variable frequency resonant converter, push-pull converter, or the like.

Rectifier uses inductors on either side of the secondary, and diodes or synchronous rectifiers, to rectify output voltage. Multi-phase interleaved circuits utilize shared switches to reduce size. High side circuit can utilize resonant tank to decrease switching losses in auxiliary.

摘要: In a DC converter, a transformer has a first winding coupled in series with a first capacitor and a first switch between a first pair of terminals, and a second winding coupled in series with a second capacitor and an inductor between a second pair of terminals. A second switch is coupled in parallel with the series-connected first winding and first capacitor. A third switch or diode is coupled in parallel with the series-connected second winding and second capacitor. The capacitors provide energy transfer in either direction via the transformer. Leakage inductance of the transformer facilitates zero voltage switching conditions, and the transformer core is reset in each cycle by charge balancing between the capacitors. The switches can comprise AC switches. The transformer can be an autotransformer.

摘要: In a power factor corrected AC-to-DC power supply system, a DC-to-DC power converter is coupled to the output of an AC-to-DC power converter in order to produce a regulated DC output signal from a rectified AC input signal. The AC-to-DC power converter and the DC-to-DC power converter each includes a switch for controlling the operation of their respective power converter. The AC-to-DC converter includes an inductor. The system provides power factor correction for minimizing harmonic distortion by including a controller that receives the regulated DC output voltage as a feedback signal, and in response, produces a series of drive pulses having predetermined constant duty cycle. These pulses are simultaneously fed to each switch, to operate the respective converters alternately between ON and OFF states. When the AC-to-DC converter is driven by a fixed duty cycle of the series of pulses, power factor correction is improved since the current flowing through the inductor is substantially proportional to the waveform of the rectified AC input signal. By preselecting the value of the inductor, the AC-to-DC converter is operable in a discontinuous mode when the instantaneous rectified AC input signal is low and in a continuous mode when the instantaneous rectified AC input signal is high.
