    Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for supporting narrowband device-to-device wireless communication, including possible techniques for performing discovery in an off grid radio system. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may determine a number of synchronization signal repetitions to use for a narrowband device-to-device transmission. The wireless device may perform the transmission, including transmitting the determined number of synchronization signal repetitions. The transmission may include an indication of the number of synchronization signal repetitions used in the transmission.

A wireless communication device may be configured to selectively receive one of a plurality of paging signals, or a portion thereof, based on measured or expected coverage quality of communications from a base station. In some scenarios, the wireless communication device may provide an indication to the base station of which paging signal the wireless communication device will attempt to receive, such that the base station may include paging information directed to that UE only in the indicated paging signal. In some scenarios, the base station may include paging information directed to that UE in a plurality of paging signals, each of the paging signals including a different number of repetitions of the paging information. In some scenarios, the UE may receive only a portion of a paging signal including a plurality of repetitions of the paging information.

    Abstract: Embodiments are presented herein of apparatuses, systems, and methods for a user equipment (UE) device to adaptively enhance the quality of service (QoS) configuration of a bearer of communications conducted over a cellular network between a UE application and a server. The UE may use various information, including a QoS profile associated with the application, to determine requested QoS parameters and/or whether the UE is permitted to request or access enhanced QoS functionality. The UE may then send a request to the cellular network indicating the requested QoS parameters, and the network may adjust the QoS configuration of the bearer in response. The UE and the network may perform routine QoS measurements and exchange information in order to adaptively maintain and optimize the QoS configuration. These techniques may tend to provide more appropriate QoS to the application, which may improve user experience.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for dynamically changing coverage modes and/or communication bandwidth in a wireless communication system. According to some embodiments, a wireless device may attach to a serving cell associated with a cellular network. A volume of data for upcoming communication with the cellular network may be determined. An indication of a requested communication bandwidth may be provided to the serving cell. The wireless device may communicate data with the serving cell using the requested communication bandwidth. In some instances, a request for narrowband communication bandwidth may result in use of a coverage enhancement mode, while a request for wideband communication bandwidth may result in use of a normal coverage mode.

    Abstract: This disclosure relates to techniques for fast switching between control channels during a radio resource control connection in a wireless communication system. A cellular base station and a wireless device may establish a radio resource control connection. The base station may provide a physical layer indication to the wireless device of a control channel to monitor for scheduling information. The base station may provide scheduling information to the wireless device on the indicated control channel. The wireless device may monitor the indicated control channel for scheduling information based at least in part on the physical layer indication and may receive the scheduling information provided by the base station on the indicated control channel.
