A method and computer program product for reducing noise in diffusion tensor imaging data utilizes an optimization function performed on voxels or pixels of the image. The optimization function includes a neighborhood relevance component that considers diffusion tensor matrices from neighboring pixels or voxels. The neighborhood relevance component is modeled as a Markov Random Field. The method includes an iteration that seeks convergence of an Expectation Maximization algorithm performed on the diffusion tensor matrices.

A system and method for detecting scene changes in a sequence of video frames utilizing a combination of a plurality of difference metrics including an interframe difference metric, a histogram difference metric and an interframe variance difference metric, as well as adaptive threshold level selection methods to dynamically select appropriate threshold levels for each of the difference metrics. The interframe and histogram difference metrics are used to identify abrupt scene changes and the interframe variance difference metric is used to identify gradual scene changes. The identified gradual and abrupt scene changes are validated by applying a plurality of conditions.

A technique for optimizing the archival and management of data stored as XML documents is capable of handling mixed data including highly structured data and unstructured data. The technique maps the structured data to a relational database while storing the unstructured data in its native XML format. The data is updated using a rules database that maps updating rules against attributes and classes of elements within the documents. A document checking/validation engine performs the updates based on rule verification. A search engine searches the documents using both a path index table and a weighted content index.
