    摘要: Disclosed are several clamps and a method for installing the clamps through at least two work pieces from one side. The clamps include a shank, a spacer, a core bolt and an expander. The shank and expander are keyed to together with the expander engaged on the core bolt such that rotation of the core bolt can bulb the expander to form a clamp surface on the blind side of the work pieces. The shank and spacer are temporarily held apart until the expander is bulbed wherein the shank is allowed to enter the spacer to clamp the work pieces. Subsequent over torque of the core bolts fractures a weakened portion of the core bolt permitting removal of the clamps when desired.

    摘要: The present invention is a novel cleat system for efficient and reliable attachment, disengagement and reattachment to a shoe. The cleat system includes a shank and a nut. The shank includes a head on one end with a leading end on the shank opposite the head. The nut has a wall which generally defines a bore having opposed edges which define a slot at least partially extending through the wall. Displacement structure is provided on at least one of the shank and the nut which provide a mechanical advantage in translating rotary and axial forces into generally circumferential and radial forces. Threads are provided on at least one of the shank and the nut for promoting axial displacement to engage and disengage the displacement structure. Threaded engagement and disengagement of the displacement structure deform or release the wall of the nut resulting in expanding and relaxing of the nut. In the invention, the nut includes threads on an interior surface of the wall which engage threads on an external surface of the leading end of the shank. Engagement of the threads causes the displacement structure to expand the wall of the nut to engage a bore of the work piece in which the nut is inserted. In both embodiments the displacement structure and threads are configured to provide frictional engagement.

The expander retaining structure on the shaft retains the expander thereon when the threaded portion of the shaft is received by the expander. Expander actuating structure is provided on at least one of the shaft and the expander causing the expander to engage with the surface defining the receptacle.

    摘要: A novel quick release fastener system for efficient and reliable attachment, disengagement and reattachment of components secured by the fastener system. The fastener system includes an elongated fastener having a shank, a drive structure on one end, an opposite end of which having a threaded portion. The fastener system also includes an expandable nut body which is engaged with the threaded portion of the fastener, which nut body is adapted to be engaged in a bore. Nut spreading structures are provided on the nut member and the fastener which spread or expand the nut when the fastener is rotated and engaged axially of the nut member. The nut is initially retained on the threaded portion of the fastener with the nut spreading structures disengaged. A work piece is provided with a bore for receiving the expandable nut body. A key is provided in the bore and a slot is provided in the nut body being sized and dimensioned for receiving the key therein. The slot allows the nut body to expand with the key engaged in the slot preventing the nut body from rotating in the bore. Nominal rotation of the fastener relative to the nut results in engaging of the nut spreading structures on the fastener and nut to expand the nut body and thereby forcibly contact and engage abutting inside surfaces of the bore. The fastener system is particularly useful in attaching wheel assemblies to an in-line skate and for attaching cleats to footwear, or similar such assembly or fastener uses.

    摘要: A novel quick release fastener system for efficient and reliable attachment, disengagement and reattachment of one or more work pieces secured by the fastener system. The fastener system includes a bolt and a nut. The bolt includes a shank with a head on one end with a leading end on the shank opposite the head. The nut has a wall which generally defines a bore having opposed edges which define a slot at least partially extending through the wall. Displacement structures are provided on the nut which provide a mechanical advantage in translating rotary and axial forces into circumferential and radial forces. Threads are provided on at least the nut for promoting axial displacement for engaging and disengaging the displacement structures. Threaded engagement and disengagement of the displacement structures deform or release the wall of the nut resulting in displacement of the opposed edges of the wall. In one embodiment the nut includes a constricting gripper which is threadedly engaged with a driving body. The gripper includes displacement structures which cause the gripper to be compressively engaged with an outside surface of the shank of the bolt when the driving body is rotated. In a second embodiment of the invention, the nut includes threads on an interior surface of the wall which engage threads on an external surface of the leading end of the bolt. Engagement of the threads causes the displacement structures to expand the wall of the nut to engage a bore of the work piece in which the nut is inserted. In both embodiments the displacement structures and threads are configured to provide frictional engagement.

    摘要: A method for making blind fastener which comprises a fastener body, a stem and a shaped shear ring wire. The shear ring in one embodiment is disposed in an annular groove disposed intermediate the ends of a neck of the stem. When the fastener is installed, a bulbing portion of the shear ring upsets the tail end of the fastener and then shears at a predetermined load. An anchor portion of the shear ring travels through the fastener body, with the stem neck radially expanding the fastener to fill the hole within the workpieces being secured together. A lock ring groove is formed in the stem midsection of smaller diameter at the intersections of the stem neck and midsection. In another embodiment, the shear ring is positioned at the intersection so that the shear ring anchor portion engages the rear of a lock ring positioned in said lock ring groove.

    摘要: A blind fastener for securing workpieces is provided having as principle components a stem member, a drive-nut, and a deformable annular means. The stem member has an externally-threaded-portion on the accessible-side thereof, and may have a stem-head on the nonaccessible side thereof. The drive-nut to be screwed onto the externally-threaded-portion of the stem member. The deformable annular means has as principle parts a head which is larger in diameter than the diameter of the boreholes of the workpieces, and an intermediate-part adjacent the head and having an outside diameter slightly smaller than the diameter of the boreholes, and a deformable tail-part adjacent the intermediate-part and abutting and stem-head for securing the workpieces when the fastener is set. The outer-portion of the stem member contains a turning means for rotating the stem member relative to the drive-nut. The stem member contains a break groove which is operative when the fastener is set and upon further rotation of the stem member relative to the drive-nut will cause the stem member to break at the break groove. The break groove is located at a point on the stem member which, when the fastener is set, is substantially flush with the top outer surface of the head. The fasteners of this invention are particularly useful for the aircraft industry and in particular in applications where the head is a countersunk type.

    摘要: A blind fastener is provided for connecting two workpieces together, comprising an internally threaded fastener body and an externally threaded stem passing in threaded engagement therewith. A drive nut is mounted on the stem in contact with the fastener body for preventing rotation thereof upon turning of the stem to install the fastener. The outer end of the stem has a cap nut to enable turning of the stem. Both the drive nut and cap nut are engaged by wrench components of an installation tool to cause turning motion of the stem relative to the fastener body to deform a sleeve around the fastener body into contact with one surface of the two workpieces. Although the fastener may vary in size depending upon the nature of the two workpieces to be connected together, the outer dimensions of the drive nut and cap nut remain constant for all fasteners regardless of differing stem diameters of different size fasteners. This enables setting fasteners of different stem diameters without necessity to change the wrench components of the installation tool. The outer surface of the drive nut and cap nut may be hexagonal or cylindrical in configuration for use with either hand held or robotic installation tools.

    摘要: A wedge-type fastener which is economical to manufacture and can be installed using known installation tools, such as those used in Europe. The fastener comprises a main body portion having an exterior adapted to be grasped by a tool to hold the same and an insert mounted in its interior keyed to the interior of the main body portion for rotation therewith. A threaded stud having a head keyed to the interior of the insert is also mounted within the body portion having a threaded portion extending out of one end of the body portion. The body portion is closed off at one end by a snap-in cap which also aligns the threaded stud in the body portion and abuts against the insert. The threaded portion of the stud extends through the cap and terminates in a snap-on cap that keeps a threaded nut threaded on the threaded portion of the stud between the first cap and the second cap from running off the stud. The stud, at its other end, includes a pair of wire elements fixedly secured therein. The wire elements extend out of an opening in the insert and out of the main body portion and a spreader, trapped within the body portions, is retained between the wires and held within the body portion. When the body portion is held by a tool and the nut is rotated and abuts against the first cap, the body portion, insert, and spreader do not rotate while the stud extends out of the body portion pulling the wire elements within the body portion with the spacer forcing the elements away from each other to thereby clamp surfaces on the blind or non-accessible side of the aperture in which the fastener is inserted.
