Abstract:
A method is provided for making silicone-polyphenylene ether graft copolymers by oxidatively coupling a 2,6-dialkylphenol to a monophenol substituted organopolysiloxane macromer which can be prepared by the hydrosilylation of a phenol having a nuclear bound aliphatically unsaturated radical and a monohydrogen organosiloxane.
Abstract:
A method is provided for using ultrasonic energy to effect the rapid cure of one-part and two-part curable silicone compositions comprising a vinyl silicone, a silicon hydride siloxane and an effective amount of a platinum group metal catalyst.
Abstract:
Methyl silicone resins are pyrolized in a non-oxidizing atmosphere to form a translucent glass comprised of silicon, oxygen and carbon where silicon atoms are chemically bonded to carbon and oxygen atoms, but there are essentially no chemical bonds between carbon and oxygen atoms. The translucent silicon-oxy-carbide glasses of this invention resist devitrification and decomposition in oxidizing or reducing atmospheres at temperatures of about 1250.degree. C. or greater. Methods for forming silicon-oxy-carbide glass articles are disclosed, along with specific methods for forming silicon-oxy-carbide glass fibres, composites, and cellular structures.
Abstract:
UV curable controlled release compositions are provided. An epoxy silicone fluid and a cationically polymerizable styrene compound, such as vinyl anisole, which is substantially miscible with the epoxy silicone fluid, is used in combination with an effective amount of a photoactive aromatic onium salt.
Abstract:
Polyalkoxysilyl-terminated polydiorganosiloxanes which are relatively stable in viscosity over prolonged storage periods are prepared by endcapping a silanol-terminated polydiorganosiloxane in the presence of a catalytic amount of an acidic amine salt which subsequently decomposes to substantially inert products, preferably an amine salt of formic acid, and in the absence of silicon-nitrogen compounds and enoxysilanes normally used as catalyst quenchers and scavengers. The products are useful for the preparation of scavenger-free room temperature vulcanizable compositions, particularly when combined with certain N-alkoxy-silylalkyl-substituted compounds as adhesion promoters.
Abstract:
N-Silylalkylamides are useful as adhesion promoters in room temperature vulcanizable compositions comprising polyalkyoxysilyl-terminated polydiorganosiloxanes. The formamides, which are preferred, are novel compounds.
