Abstract: In a method for determining whether a communication device can transmit via a first communication channel, the communication device receives a packet via a second communication channel and sets a network allocation vector (NAV) timer corresponding to the second communication channel using duration information included in the header of the packet. The communication device determines whether the second communication channel overlaps in frequency with a first communication channel. If the second communication channel overlaps the first communication channel, the communication device is not permitted to transmit via the first communication channel when the NAV timer is not zero. If the second communication channel does not overlap the first communication channel, the communication device is permitted to transmit via the second communication channel even when the NAV timer is not zero.

Abstract: A first communication device receives, from a second communication device, a synchronization frame having an allocation indicator that indicates a non-overlapping allocation of pilot tones. The first communication device generates a first data frame that comprises a plurality of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbols of a non-legacy training field portion, the plurality of OFDM symbols including only pilot tones corresponding to the non-overlapping allocation of pilot tones. The first communication device transmits, in response to the synchronization frame and via a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) communication channel, the first data frame to the second communication device simultaneously with a transmission of a second data frame by a third communication device via the MIMO communication channel, wherein corresponding OFDM symbols of respective non-legacy training field portions of the first data frame and the second data frame include non-overlapping pilot tones according to the non-overlapping allocation.

Abstract: A method for discovering devices in a peer to peer (P2P) wireless communication network is described. During a search state of a first communication device, a probe request is transmitted by the first communication device on a first channel included in a plurality of channels. During the search state, a probe response transmitted by a second communication device on the first channel is received by the first communication device. In response to the probe response, a ranging exchange with the second communication device is performed by the first communication device.

Abstract: A channel access timer at a communication device is set to a duration for which a shared communication medium is expected to be busy in a basic service set (BSS) heard by the communication device. The channel access timer is counted down. Before the channel access timer reaches zero, respective indications of respective contention free period durations in multiple basic service sets (BSSs) heard by the communication device are recorded in a BSS record maintained by the communication device. Recording the respective indications includes recording, for each particular BSS of the multiple BSSs, (i) an identifier of the particular BSS and (ii) an offset value corresponding to an offset of an end of a contention free period in the particular BSS from an end of a contention free period in the BSS based on which the channel access timer is currently set at the communication device.

Abstract: Embodiments described herein provide a method for providing a physical-layer control mechanism in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol allowing a high data rate. At a wireless receiver, a physical-layer data frame may be received compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. When the physical-layer data frame includes only one data unit, a length of an enhanced directional multi-gigabit header from a header associated with the physical-layer data frame may be obtained, and the enhanced directional multi-gigabit header from the physical-layer data frame may be enhanced based on the length. When the physical-layer data frame includes more than one data unit, a first length of a first data unit may be obtained from a first header associated with the first data unit, and the first data unit may be identified from the data frame based on the first length.

Abstract: A method for transmission of media access control (MAC) protocol data units (MPDUs) over a wireless local area network (WLAN) communication channel is described. A first physical layer (PHY) data unit is generated at a first communication device. The first PHY data unit has i) a data field that includes a first MPDU to be transmitted to a second communication device, and ii) a PHY signal field that includes a transmission version field set to indicate an initial transmission of the first MPDU. The first PHY data unit is transmitted over the WLAN communication channel to the second communication device. It is determined, at the first communication device, whether a first acknowledgment to the first MPDU has been received from the second communication device. In response to determining that the first acknowledgment has not been received, a second PHY data unit is generated at the first communication device. The second PHY data unit has i) a data field that includes the first MPDU, and ii) a PHY signal field that includes a transmission version field set to indicate a retransmission of the first MPDU. The second PHY data unit is transmitted over the WLAN communication channel to the second communication device.

Abstract: A first network device including a physical layer (PHY) module and a medium access control (MAC) module. The MAC module, in a sub-1 GHz band, transmits the capabilities element to a second network device. The capabilities element includes: a multi-bit field indicating whether transmission of a packet with a traveling pilot is supported by the first network device; or a field indicating whether transmission of a spatial stream over a 1 MHz channel to the second network device is supported by the first network device. The MAC module, subsequent transmitting the capabilities element, forwards data to the PHY module. The PHY module: generates the packet to include the data, where the packet includes the traveling pilot if the capabilities element indicates transmission of the packet with the traveling pilot is supported; and according to the capabilities element, transmits the packet to the second network device via the spatial stream.

Abstract: A communication device generates an informational element (IE) to include an indication of a minimum modulation and coding scheme (MCS) allowable in a wireless communication network. The minimum MCS is from an ordered set of multiple MCSs defined by a communication protocol utilized by the wireless communication network. The indication of the minimum MCS also indicates use of any MCSs below the minimum MCS in the ordered set of MCSs is not allowed in the wireless communication network. The communication device generates a data unit that includes the IE.
