A thermally assisted magnetic recording head with highly efficient optical coupling, while guiding a laser beam from a semiconductor laser element, i.e., a light source, to a leading end thereof, eliminating an influence due to heat generated by the element, and having excellent floating characteristics. The thermally assisted magnetic recording head includes a substrate 2 having a first optical waveguide 1, a semiconductor laser element 100, and a slider 4 having a second optical waveguide 3 formed on an end surface. The semiconductor laser element 100 is fixed on the substrate 2 so that light emitted from the element 100 propagates through the first optical waveguide 1, and a slider 4 is fixed on the substrate 2 so that light emitted from the first optical waveguide 1 propagates through the second optical waveguide 3. High optical coupling efficiency is then achieved, while ensuring both heat-dissipating and floating characteristics.

In a digital broadcasting signal receiving/recording/reproducing apparatus, a recorded program can be immediately reproduced without performing complicated operations. Only a desired program and information related to the desired program are separated to be extracted from the digital broadcasting signal. Then, the separated/extracted broadcasting signal is supplied to a recording/reproducing apparatus. In the recording/reproducing apparatus, the supplied broadcasting signal is recorded, and the recorded program can be immediately reproduced without complicated manipulating operations during the signal reproducing operation.

A near-field optical probe and optical near-field generator are provided. A problem of a probe having a scatterer in which optical near-field noises are generated at the parts other than for a point at which an intense optical near-field is generated, is solved. In one example of the probe, a surface of the parts except for a vertex of the scatterer at which the intense optical near-field is generated is etched so that an etching depth becomes not less than a penetration depth of the optical near-field. The probe facilitates control of noises when a sample is observed or recording marks are reproduced.

A recessed portion is formed in a part of the slider, and a device for generating an optical near-field and the coil for generating a magnetic field are formed in the recessed portion. The optical near-field generation device is formed on a surface facing a recording medium, and the magnetic field application coil is formed on an upper surface of the recessed portion. The optical near-field generation device and the magnetic field application coil are respectively exposed to the surface.

On the outside of the spray gun (1) having the spray unit (5) at the forward end thereof, the external electrode (7) having an electrode projecting from the forward end part thereof is provided removably at the part (13) of the gun body being connected with the electrode while being separated from the paint passage such that it can be replaced readily. The part being connected with a high voltage output end part through a high resistor for limiting current can be shortened while sustaining safety by providing a turn-up part so that a sufficient creeping discharge preventing distance is ensured up to the exposed part on the outer surface. Furthermore, the electrode body itself is simplified so that it can be replaced with one touch, and it is composed of a flexible resilient material in order to prevent damage.
