摘要： A quantum well infrared photodetector includes a direct connection between the charge well and detector that induces a nonlinear dynamic bias. This dynamic bias advantageously corrects for nonuniformity in the conductance of the detector. In another feature, the charge well is fabricated on the detector element by adding an extra contact layer and a dielectric layer to a standard quantum well. Very dense focal plane arrays can be produced by making the charge well a part of the infrared detector.

摘要： A self-contained fire escape apparatus for mounting in a wall of a building adjacent an associated window includes a collapsible ladder. A cover is securely attached to a first end of the ladder. A box is configured to provide storage space for the ladder and defines a bottom wall, front and rear walls, a pair of sidewalls, and an opening in the front wall. A second end of the ladder is securely anchored to the box. The cover is releasably attached to the box to cover at least a portion of the opening such that a person can manually remove the cover and eject the cover and the first end of the ladder through the associated window. The box is configured for mounting within a building wall in close reception between a pair of upright structural members of the building wall. The collapsible ladder 2 is sufficiently small in its collapsed condition that it fits within the box 8 for storage. The ladder preferably includes a handle link with at least three elongate rigid handle sections that are rigidly interconnected. At least two of the handle sections form integral stand-offs that abut a flat surface to thereby support a first handle section in a spaced-apart relationship from the flat surface such that a person using the ladder can easily and securely grasp the first handle section.

摘要： A frame buffer cache includes a dual-input, dual-output storage cell to multiplex frame buffer tile data and pixel data. Tile data stored in one format while pixel data is stored in a second format. The cache allows for buffering the data in the two different formats so as to provide the data in the format as needed. Pixel data is retrieved from the tile data and file data is retrieved from the pixel data. The storage cell includes a multiple-bit latch and tri-state buffers which connect each storage cell to a tile data bus and a pixel data bus. A number of bus lines and components are reduced due to the use of the tri-state buffers.

摘要： A detector array of a plurality of photodetector cells is provided which operates in two spectral bands by utilizing a polarity reversing multiplexer for directly reversing the polarity of different types of photodetector pairs. More particularly, long wave photoconductive quantum well detectors and near infrared photovoltaic detectors may be advantageously interconnected to supply the two detectors with different bias voltage levels by a polarity reversal function. This polarity reversal function exploits the low and high impedance characteristics of the detectors for enhancing the electrical interconnection. As a result, the system optimally changes the operation of the detector array from one photospectral band to another to take advantage of the electrical interconnection characteristics of both devices. As a further advantage, the circuitry used may be simplified for eliminating bias lines. Thereby, the fill factor of the sensor array is increased by reducing the number of connection nodes or bumps to bias lines which provides a larger active area for the sensor array.

摘要： The electronically tuned power oscillator (ETPO) of the present invention provides a method and apparatus that drives a narrow-band (high Q) transducer over a relatively broad band of frequencies. A pseudo-random sequence generator dynamically switches a bank of capacitors varying the resonant frequency of the power oscillator. A node on the power oscillator provides the clock for the pseudo-random sequence generator thereby providing a synchronized frequency change on every time varying cycle.

摘要： Apparatus for removing frozen electrolyte bath from surface portions of an electrode body, the apparatus having crust breakers adapted to penetrate and fracture the crust which breaks into discrete pieces and which separates from the body. The crust breakers are attached to a frame through a linkage system which is adapted to move the breakers along a line of travel substantially adjacent to the salt encrusted surfaces of the body. With application of sufficient power to the crust breakers to penetrate and fracture the crust, substantially all of the crust is removed from the electrode body with minimal generation of dust and noise.
