Abstract: A wearable defibrillator includes one or more environmental sensors including an accelerometer, one or more ECG sensors configured to acquire ECG data, and an alarm manager and at least one processor operatively coupled to the one or more ECG sensors and the accelerometer. The at least one processor is configured to detect a cardiac abnormality in the patient, identify a notification having one or more characteristics, and detect an environmental condition of the wearable defibrillator. The accelerometer is configured to detect a presence or lack of patient motion, and/or detect a body position of the patient as the detected environmental condition. The at least one processor is configured to determine whether one or more factors exist that inhibit the patient's ability to recognize the notification, on determining their existence, adapt the one or more characteristics of the notification and provide an adapted notification, and issue the adapted notification.

Abstract: A remote alarm for use with a wearable medical device. The remote alarm is configured to receive alarms, voice messages and prompts issued by the wearable medical device and to repeat those alarms, voice messages and prompts in a manner that can more easily be perceived by a patient wearing the wearable medical device or a bystander. The remote alarm can be configured to receive a communication from the wearable medical device, and in response, to identify one or more messages to be provided to the patient or a bystander. The messages may be provided audibly, visually, tactilely or combinations thereof. The remote alarm may further be configured to take certain actions depending upon the content of the communication, such as sending a telephone message to alert emergency personnel to the identity, location and medical condition of the patient, or sending an email.

Abstract: A wearable therapeutic device includes an external defibrillator configured to monitor electrical heart activity of a patient and a garment housing a first therapy electrode and a second therapy electrode. The first and second therapy electrodes are electrically coupled to the defibrillator. The garment releasably receives a plurality of replaceable receptacles configured to store a conductive gel in locations proximate to the therapy electrodes. A plurality of gas cartridges each disposed on one of the plurality of replaceable receptacles are configured to control a release of the stored conductive gel of the associated one of the plurality of replaceable receptacles by igniting. A plurality of conductive gel firing circuits each associated with and separate from each of the plurality of replaceable receptacles are configured to be operatively coupled to the gas cartridge to control the release of the stored conductive gel upon information being communicated from the external defibrillator.

Abstract: According to at least one example, an ambulatory medical device is provided. The device includes a plurality of electrodes disposed at spaced apart positions about a patient's body and a control unit. The control unit includes a sensor interface, a memory and a processor. The sensor interface is coupled to the plurality of electrodes and configured to receive a first ECG signal from a first pairing of the plurality of electrodes and to receive a second ECG signal from a second pairing of the plurality of electrodes. The memory stores information indicating a preferred pairing, the preferred pairing being either the first pairing or the second pairing. The processor is coupled to the sensor interface and the memory and is configured to resolve conflicts between interpretations of first ECG signal and the second ECG signal in favor of the preferred pairing.

Abstract: According to another example, a wearable medical device controller is provided. The device controller includes a memory and a processor coupled to the memory. The processor is configured to determine a correlation between a phenomenon identifiable by the wearable medical device controller and at least one response pattern associated with a patient and store, responsive to detecting the correlation, an adaptation path to address the at least one response pattern, the adaptation path specifying an adaptation of at least one characteristic of an alarm. The at least one response pattern may include a plurality of response patterns and the adaptation path may reflect adaptations made to address at least some of the plurality of response patterns.
