    摘要: A nozzle for an injection molding apparatus is provided. The nozzle includes a nozzle body, a heater and a first gap seal surface. The nozzle body defines a nozzle body melt passage, that is adapted to be downstream from and in fluid communication with a melt source, and upstream from and in fluid communication with a gate into a mold cavity in a mold component. The heater is thermally connected to the nozzle body for heating melt in the nozzle body melt passage. The first gap seal surface is positioned on a structure that is connected at least indirectly to the nozzle body. The first gap seal surface is adapted to be separated by a gap with respect to a second gap seal surface on the mold component. The gap is sized to inhibit the flow of melt between the first gap seal surface and the second gap seal surface.

    摘要: A valve bushing assembly for use in an injection molding apparatus is provided. The injection molding apparatus includes a manifold block, a valve pin, and an actuator block. The manifold block has at least one melt channel therein. The manifold block has an exterior surface that faces the actuator block, and has a manifold pass-through extending from the exterior surface to the at least one melt channel. The manifold pass-through has a manifold sealing surface therein. The manifold pass-through permits the valve pin to pass therethrough. The actuator block has an actuator attached thereto, that is operatively connected to the valve pin. The valve bushing assembly includes a bushing and a spacer. The bushing is adapted to be received in the manifold pass-through. The bushing has a bushing pass-through that is adapted to align with the manifold pass-through and is adapted to slidably receive the valve pin. The bushing has a bushing sealing surface that is adapted to cooperate with the manifold sealing surface to inhibit melt leakage therebetween. The bushing has a bushing shoulder. The spacer is positioned between the manifold block and the actuator block to space the manifold block and the actuator block from each other. The spacer has a first spacer surface that is adapted to contact the actuator block. The spacer has a second spacer surface that is adapted to contact the bushing shoulder. The spacer is adapted to be substantially free of contact with the manifold block.

A securing device is used to secure the nozzle tip to the nozzle body via non-metallic threads or threads having a non-metallic coating that mate with complementary threads on the nozzle body. In this example, through use of the non-metallic threads or threads having a non-metallic coating, the securing device has a longer life than conventional securing devices that were made from steel or titanium by eliminating or substantially reducing thread galling.

    摘要: A valve pin bushing for a valve gated injection molding apparatus having, a back plate, a valve pin bushing, and a manifold, with axially aligned respective valve pin bores. The valve pin bushing includes a back plate contacting surface and an opposite manifold contacting surface for bearing against the back plate and manifold, respectively. The back plate contacting surface has a surface area larger than a surface area of the manifold contacting surface to draw heat from the valve pin bushing to the cooler back plate. An air gap, which may be sealed by an optional sealing portion, is formed where the flange is spaced away from a central portion of the valve pin bushing near the manifold. The valve pin bushing also includes a tubular member for positioning within the manifold valve pin bore, which defines a portion of the manifold melt passageway.

The nozzle includes a nozzle body, a heater associated with the nozzle body, a melt channel running through the nozzle body configured to allow melt material flow, and a thermally conductive device located inside the nozzle body. The thermally conductive device can be configured to produce an even heat profile along an entire length of the melt channel. The nozzle body can be symmetrical or asymmetrical and can be made of a different, less thermally conductive material, than the thermally conductive device. The thermally conductive device can be used to balance a heating profile of the nozzle to produce consistency in melt material viscosity and speed throughout a micro nozzle channel.

    摘要: Valve gated injection molding apparatus having three position valve member actuating mechanism for multilayer molding. A first melt passage extends to the gate through an annular channel in a heated nozzle, while a second melt passage extends around an elongated valve member in a central melt channel. A rack member engaging the rear end of the valve member is driven by a pinion member connected to a front piston in a front cylinder. A rear piston in a shorter rear cylinder aligned with the front cylinder has a stem extending forwardly into the front cylinder. First, air pressure applied behind the rear piston retracts the valve member from a first closed position to a second partially open position wherein melt flows only through the annular channel. Then, air pressure applied behind the front piston retracts the valve member to a third fully open position wherein melt flows simultaneously through both melt channels to provide the three layers. When the cavity is nearly full, air pressure is released behind and applied in front of the front piston to return the valve member to the second position until the cavity is full. Air pressure is then released behind the third piston to advance the valve member to the first closed position in which its front end is seated in the gate for ejection.
