Abstract: A self-locking orthodontic bracket includes a supporting base and transversely spaced tying lugs interrupted by a transverse archwire slot. A closure mounted on the bracket includes a movable cover slidably overlapping an anterior surface across the bracket. The closure is supported by sliding guides that engage opposed side surfaces of the tying lugs. A transverse flat spring is recessed within the fixed wall to selectively engage indented areas on the posterior surface of the cover and serve as a detent. The detent selectively positions the cover in an open or closed position relative to the archwire slot. The brackets are preferably installed in two sets for attachment to the upper and lower teeth with the covers of both sets being movable to their open positions in common inferior directions. This facilitates visualization of the open archwire slot and adjacent bracket surfaces by attending professionals.

Abstract: A syringe system for matching tooth composite colors to natural tooth colors. The system includes a plurality of delivery syringes each having therein a different colored tooth composite. In one embodiment, a visible portion of each delivery syringe is colored with the same color as the tooth composite within that delivery syringe. In another embodiment, an actual cured sample of the tooth composite contained within the syringe is placed on a visible portion of each delivery syringe. Therefore, matching tooth composite color to natural tooth color can be performed by simple viewing of the delivery syringes. An organizer displays the delivery syringes in such a way that the colored portion, or composite sample portion, of each delivery syringe is clearly visible. The organizer means also displays the delivery syringes in such way that the delivery syringes together provide a visible palette of colors from which to choose a matching tooth composite.

Abstract: A manually operable ejector holder for effecting discharge of a capsule-like cartridge of cylindrical shape open at one end to receive a measured charge of material and provided with an annular flange at the open end, the other end being closed but provided with an angular discharge nipple and the holder having a cylindrical body provided with an ejecting plunger operated by a handle and a cooperative pivoted lever member. Abstract: Non-sliding orthodontic appliances may include an archwire having male fasteners for locking in place with brackets in a non-sliding manner and interproximal loops for exerting forces on the brackets. Appropriate forces may be calculated according to vectors between initial and ideal tooth positions. The brackets may be transferred to a patient's teeth using indirect bonding trays which contain slots for holding and aligning each bracket. The trays may include integrated handles for facilitating handling, may be sectioned into smaller pieces for easier application, and/or may be labeled for facilitating proper registration. Superposition of a digital placement plan and clinical model after bonding may illustrate the accuracy of bracket placement. The archwire may comprise atraumatic ends to avoid patient discomfort. A color registration system can be used to facilitate the attachment of the archwire to the brackets. The archwire may be locked into place with the brackets using crimpable stops.

Abstract: A patient support apparatus includes a plurality of primary sensors adapted to measure different parameters used in the control of the patient support apparatus. One or more suites of secondary sensors are added to the patient support apparatus to provide data about the primary sensors. The secondary sensors may be used to detect errors in the primary sensors, to modify outputs from the primary sensors, and/or to provide usage and/or diagnostic data about the use of the patient support apparatus. The suite(s) of secondary sensors may measure parameters that affect the outputs of one or more of the primary sensors. In some embodiments, the suite(s) of secondary sensors include one or more dormant sensors that are not used on the patient support apparatus until a code modification is received from one or more external sources instructing the control system of the patient support apparatus to begin using the dormant sensor(s).
