Abstract:
A filter cloth of long pile fiber bundles is used as a tertiary filter in a wastewater processing method. The filter may be backwashed by a rotating suction head which does not touch the filter cloth. A combination of countercurrent and horizontal flow dislodges entrained solids from the filter cloth. Mounting of the filter media as modular components permits increased capacity within a single tank while avoiding down time in changeover of filter media.

Abstract:
The disclosed modular filter may include a filter medium and an external frame structure. The filter medium may form a chamber having a front side, a back side, and a periphery. The filter medium may also have a plurality of fibers. The external frame structure has at least one aperture mounted on at least one of the front side and back side of the chamber in which the external frame structure has a thickness greater than the lengths of the plurality of fibers.
Abstract:
A water intake screen with a filter panel comprises a frame adapted to be connected to said water intake and a circular filter panel disposed transversely in a circular opening of said frame, to which it is fastened. Said circular filter panel comprises a wheel extending in a substantially vertical plane between a lower position and an upper position and comprising radial retaining members on the upstream side of said circular filter panel and attached thereto, an aspiration device on the upstream side of said retaining members, and means for driving said circular panel and/or said aspiration device with a rotary relative movement so as to generate locally through said circular filter panel a successive counterflow at each retaining member in accordance with said rotary relative movement in order to take up successively debris and particles retained thereby and to direct them through an evacuation pipe adapted to evacuate said debris and particles to the exterior.
Abstract:
Self-cleaning drum filter comprising a pressure vessel (11) containing a cylindrical filtering drum (15) to whose outside curved surface a filtering mat (57) is juxtaposed, provided with means for removal of the cake collected on the outside of said filtering mat consisting of a scanner plate (18), substantially equal in length to the filtering drum cylindrical surface, juxtaposed to the inside wall of said pressure vessel, said plate being provided along its length with a through-slit (22) centrally placed that provides a passage between the inner (69) and outer (68) faces of said scanner plate, said outer face (68) being provided, along the length of said slit (22), with a trough (21) which forms, together with the inner wall of said pressure vessel, a channel for collecting the flushing liquid during the cake-removal cleaning operation. Said channel communicates with an exit conduit (24) outside said pressure vessel by means of a plurality of through-holes (23) in the wall (19) of said pressure vessel, for disposal of the flushing liquid.
Abstract:
The present invention is a screening/washing/dewatering system which utilizes a solids handling pump to vacuum solids captured from a contaminated fluid stream from the system's screening mechanism and to convey them, in a concentrated form and through a closed conduit, to the washing/dewatering mechanism. The use of a solids handling pump enables a screening, washing and dewatering system to contain the captured solids in a completely closed system from their point of capture, through a conveyance system of unlimited length and configuration, to the point that the washed, dewatered screenings are finally discharged. Secondarily, the present invention offers the advantages of being able to capture as small of a solids particle size as is desirable and of providing effective washing and dewatering of the captured particles while minimizing the number of moving parts and maximizing the overall system reliability.
Abstract:
The aim of the invention is to improve the backwashing action of a backwashable filter for liquids comprising the following: a filter body which is located in a housing and which separates an incoming flow chamber from an outgoing flow chamber and a backwashing channel which lies adjacent to the filter body, is situated in the outgoing flow chamber and has a backwashing opening that faces towards the filter body, said backwashing channel also communicating with a source of a cleaning medium and said cleaning medium being subjected to pressure in the backwashing channel, and the filter body and the backwashing channel being moveable in relation to each other. To this end, the filter body has links on a side facing towards the backwashing channel which are set apart from each other in the direction of motion. Adjacent links form a separately backwashable segment respectively and when a segment is backwashed, the corresponding links lie sealingly against the backwashing channel with sealing surfaces and expose the backwashing opening. Each sealing surface extends further than the backwashing opening in the direction of motion, so that each link can tightly seal the backwashing opening with its sealing surface.
Abstract:
A filter cleaning apparatus includes a suction generating assembly having a suction generating nozzle, such as an eductor nozzle. The suction generating nozzle has a nozzle inlet, a nozzle outlet, and a suction port in fluid communication with the filter material. The suction generating assembly also includes a suction member positioned in fluid communication with the suction port and positioned adjacent the influent surface of the filter material. A pump is positioned upstream of the nozzle inlet and in fluid communication, on a suction side, with the filter tank or other liquid source. The pump may be operated to deliver operating fluid from the filter tank so as to pass the operating fluid through the suction generating nozzle in a direction from the nozzle inlet to the nozzle outlet. As a result, liquid in the filter tank is drawn through the filter material in a reverse direction and into the suction member. The liquid stream that results acts to remove filtered solids and biogrowth from the filter material. The liquid stream, filtered solids and biogrowth, are discharged along with the operating fluid through the nozzle outlet.
Abstract:
A fluid filter assembly having a body with a chamber for receiving a filter element supported by the body. At least one cleaning device is positioned adjacent the inlet side of the filter element. The cleaning device includes a hollow duct for collecting dislodged particulate matter, an adjustable scraper or brush and a deflector substantially equal in length to the scraper or brush. Nozzles may be provided for directing pressurized cleaning fluid toward the cleaning device.
