    摘要: A lightweight automotive vehicle door assembly incorporates a modular concept having an outer door panel, an inner door panel, a reinforcement beam, and a hardware mounting module. The outer panel is preferably formed from aluminum, polypropylene or steel, while the inner door panel is preferably cast from magnesium with the hardware mounting module formed of thermoplastic. The magnesium inner panel is mounted to the outer panel by a hemming process while hardware is mounted to the inner panel through the use of two-piece thermoplastic inserts creating a dielectric barrier between the fasteners and the magnesium inner panel. The reinforcement beam is formed of a composite material consisting of a glass and carbon fiber reinforced outer skin with an interior core of polyurethane.

    摘要: An anti-intrusion beam for incorporation into a vehicle door assembly is manufactured from an outer skin formed from laminated layers of composite materials having fiber reinforcement oriented in a directional pattern in each respective layer. The anisotropic beam includes body members having an interior core formed of high density foam plastic. The transversely corrugated beam includes attachment areas that have the same corrugated configuration which are fastened to mounting lugs of an inner door panel arranged in a corresponding corrugation. Variations in the thickness and formation of the layers of the outer skin can be used to control the failure of the beam during impact to provide a progressive predicable failure pattern for the beam. A frame catcher can be inserted into the body portions of the anti-intrusion beam to permit the transfer of impact forces to the frame of the vehicle.

The present invention can be used with or without structural key members and mating recesses to integrate the closure panel with the rest of the vehicle body, depending on design criteria. Also, primary structure of the present invention provides a structural modularity for closure panels that simplifies design by reducing the number of overall parts and uses the primary structure alone to meet the demands for crash testing. Thus, a basic structure is relied on for crash strength while accompanying secondary structures provide cosmetic differences. The inventive intrusion frame can be used with conventionally hinged passenger doors (both front and rear), vertically sliding doors, rear minivan doors, utility vehicle lift-gates, tailgates, and cargo doors, trunks, sliding van doors, or any vehicle door opening where it is desired to limit intrusion into the vehicle during a collision.

    摘要: A side intrusion beam is disclosed for mounting within a vehicle door to inhibit intrusion into the vehicle during a collision. The intrusion beam spans across substantially the entire main portion (i.e. non-window portion) of the door. Structural keys located on the four corners of the intrusion beam mate with complementary shaped receptacles on the door jamb when the door is closed to anchor the intrusion beam to the vehicle chassis. Preferably, the intrusion beam includes a framework of truss members which create an overall outwardly curved shape. In the preferred embodiment, the entire framework is constructed from two sheet metal stampings that are welded together, forming a void therebetween. A structural foam can be injected into the void to increase strength and deaden sound. The inventive intrusion beam can be used with conventionally hinged passenger doors (both front and rear), vertically sliding doors, rear minivan doors, utility vehicle lift-gates, tailgates, and cargo doors, trunks, sliding van doors, or any vehicle door opening where it is desired to limit intrusion into the vehicle during a collision.

    摘要: A door structure for a vehicle capable of increasing its capability of protecting a passenger on the vehicle without increasing the thickness of the pad. The door structure is provided with a door body including an inner panel and an outer panel, reinforcements secured to each of the panels and a pad attached to the inner panel to protect the passenger. In the longitudinal direction of the vehicle, each of the reinforcements has its rear end positioned in front of the passenger. Because each panel has a higher rigid part with the reinforcement and a lower rigid part without the reinforcements, when an external force is exerted on the door body, it begins to deform in the vicinity of the rear end of the reinforcement, whereby it is possible to absorb the energy of the external force efficiently without injuring the passenger.
